pH is an abbreviation for the "power of the concentration of the Hydrogen ion" present in a solution. It is expressed as a number on a scale of degrees of pH, from 0 to 14. Hydrogen is a naturally occurring gas that is the lightest gas ever found and is number 1 in the periodic table.

The pH scale indicates the acidity or alkalinity of any substance, which is an indicator of the number of hydrogen atoms present. A pH of 7 is neutral, a pH of less than 7 indicates an acidic solution, and a pH greater than 7 indicates an alkaline solution.

pH And Your Digestion

Your stomach should be highly acidic. It secretes gastric acid and this helps the gastric enzymes to work, which helps to sterilize the food by killing most types of bacteria and micro-organisms. The acidity in your stomach should range from 1 to 2 on the pH scale.

You wouldn’t want to go dropping your valuables into anyone’s stomach because the contents of their stomach should be acid enough to dissolve a razor blade!

When you get acid reflux, it means you are actually deficient in acid, not that you have too much. Many people take something to reduce the acid. This might give short term relief but it will worsen the problem in the long term. The more you alkalize your digestive system, the more digestive problems you will have as time goes on.

Eating too much sugar and refined carbohydrates (white flour products like bread, pasta, etc) makes your digestive system alkaline and this inhibits your body’s ability to break down foods or even fight off unfriendly visitors. That’s how come so many people have digestive problems and also why infections are so prevalent.

Acid Reflux

They’re too alkaline from all the processed foods, sugars and refined foods. There is a lot of misinformation out there about this so be sure that you understand this very well. When you get acid reflux, your stomach does not have enough acid.

How To Maintain A Proper pH Balance

Adequate protein is necessary to maintain normal digestion as well as to maintain an optimum pH balance. Proteins help to prevent your body fluids from becoming too acid or too alkaline. They can combine with and neutralize either acid or alkaline substances.

Many minerals can’t be absorbed if your stomach is too alkaline. It is very important that your digestive system remains acidic as that’s what Mother Nature intended. A pH of 1 – 2 is very acid.

Calcium and Magnesium

In order for your body to be able use the calcium you take, it needs magnesium in a 2:1 ratio. Because calcium and magnesium are both alkaline minerals, they need to have some kind of acid to create an optimum pH to be absorbed and used by your body.

Most tablets and capsules violate this rule as they do not contain any form of acid and that’s why most people don’t feel any difference when taking them. Many don’t have the calcium and magnesium in balance either.

Deficiencies

If there is an imbalance of these minerals, your body will draw from the supplies in the body to create the balance and this further exacerbates deficiencies. Like, if you keep using your reserves in the bank without replacing them, soon you have no reserves.

Not only that, but they can actually create a problem as tablets and capsules can lie in your stomach and don’t break down. Many people take them in the hope that they’re getting their quota of calcium and/or magnesium but don’t realize that they very likely aren’t. Besides being a waste of money, they can cause an imbalance in the body and deposit as stones in the kidneys or deposits in the joints.

These conditions are not caused by too much calcium but rather by an imbalance with magnesium AND an incorrect pH.
