Brainwave Entrainment Depression
Could brainwave entrainment be an effective treatment against depression? How does it work, how effective is it and how can you access it?
The Status Quo
Depression is widespread but still not yet a fully understood condition. The standard medical treatments are antidepressant drugs and/or therapy.
Drugs are useful for helping to control the most serious cases of depression but they are not a long term cure for anyone who takes them, regardless of the severity of their depression. Therapy does not have any "side effects" as such but although some people report great results, it does not work for everyone.
Brainwave entrainment is a scientifically verified method that many sufferers of depression find to be a useful, non-chemical alternative to the standard treatment protocols.
How Brainwave Entrainment Works
Brainwave entrainment is the process of using a stimulus (such as a special audio recording) in order to induce brainwaves of a specific, desired frequency.
For example, some people use brainwave entrainment to induce brainwaves of around 5 Hz which is in the "theta" range. They might do so because they have writers block and wish to induce a state of creativity where ideas will emerge and flow more easily.
How It Can Help With Depression
Brainwave entrainment can be used to put the brain into many different states. I have already mentioned it being used for creativity but it can also be used for deep relaxation and to help people sleep.
Many people with depression or similar disorders such as social anxiety disorder, PTSD and other anxiety-related conditions have used brainwave entrainment successfully to help themselves recover.
There are many schools of thought on the best way to use it for depression. One of the more successful tactics has been to stimulate beta waves and several studies have shown that this works reliably.
While you might think that theta waves (those associated with sleep, dreaming and being rested) would be a good method, at least two studies have shown that theta waves can actually make depression worse.
How Effective Is It?
Only a few studies have been published so far and scientists and doctors are far from having a full understanding of how brainwave entrainment can be used to cure depression. However, most of these studies have shown promising results and this technology has been shown to definitely give an improvement.
How To Access It
The most common form of brainwave entrainment is a type of audio known as "binaural beats". These are available all over the Internet and can be downloaded immediately for a low fee.
