Brainwave entrainment software is a relatively recent phenomenon that gives full flexibility and customization options to the user in order to be able to create almost endless brainwave synchronization possibilities. How does it work, why would you need it and what is the best way to get hold of it? All answers are revealed below.

What Is Brainwave Entrainment Software?

First of all, brainwave entrainment itself is the use of a stimulus (e.g. audio or video) that is set or played at a specific frequency. The brain interprets this "beat frequency" and then synchronizes your brain waves to oscillate at the same frequency.

Why would you want to do this anyway? Because specific frequencies are associated with specific mental states such as being relaxed, focused or creative.

Until now, most people have relied on audio files that have been produced long ago and cannot be changed. These work extremely well but their only drawback is that they are a completed product. They cannot be changed or customized. Furthermore, an audio file does not give you the means to create your own brainwave entrainment routines.

Brainwave entrainment software allows you to create your own customized routines. Do you want to put the brain into a deep theta state first and then take it to a higher alpha state? You can do exactly this with such software.

The standard output of this type of software is an audio file such as an MP3 file, playable on all computers and listening devices (e.g. iPods). Some even support the use of visual methods such as LED glasses. However, audio is more than adequate for most people's needs.

Research Software

Originally, brainwave entrainment software was only available in academic circles. Typically, a university research department would develop a very crude version with limited features.

However, as brainwave entrainment has increased in popularity, consumers have demanded not only finished audio products but also the ability to create their own recordings. The rise of the Internet also means that brainwave entrainment aficionados are now able to swap and trade recordings and original "source code".

Consumer Products

Today's software has come a long way from the early days of academic research. No two software packages are the same but some of the features that you can expect in any good package include: the ability to create your own MP3s and audio Cd's, support for not just the popular binaural beats but also monaural and isochronic tones, built-in sessions that you can leave as is or change as you see fit, hypnosis scripts and more.

Some such software even gives you the rights to create your own audios and sell them to others.
