In general, young drivers are at higher risk of geting into an accident. Just about every day one can find reports of still more accidents involving teenage drivers. Many accidents involve several teenagers in a car. Many accidents have several victims. Many accidents include pedestrian victims. Below we summarize recent reports of 3 such accidents. One of the cases resulted in significant injuries. The additional three situations ended in a fatality.
In this publication a motor vehicle accident was described in which the driver was a 16 year old who held a junior license which allowed the teenager to drive up to 9:00 pm. The accident, though, happened on a weekday at a time later than 9:00 p.m. The driver lost control of his car, hit another car, and then slammed into a 65 year-old male pedestrian who was waiting at a bus stop. The victim died from his injuries a short time after being hit. The driver was arrested. He was charged with speeding, manslaughter, and criminally negligent homicide.
This motor vehicle accident involved an 18 year-old driver who was driving while intoxicated. The incident occurred on a Sunday morning at roughly 2:30. The greatest percentage of drunk driving accidents occur on weekend nights. Based on the report the victim in this accident was struck while crossing a road. He was forty four years old. Because of the accident he suffered significant head injuries. Following the accident the driver was arrested and was charged with driving under the influence and with driving while intoxicated.
This accident involved an 18 year-old male driving in a residential community at approximately 8:00 a.m. on a Sunday morning. The accident happened when the teenaged driver lost control of his car. It turned forcefully and flipped, hitting a pedestrian who had just left his car in order to take a pamphlet from the front yard of one of the homes. The home was for sale and had a sign and the pamphlets in the front yard. After striking the man the car kept going until it was ultimately stopped when it struck a tree in front of the house. The pedestrian died as a result of his injuries. He was 67 years old.
In this report the description was of a nineteen year old driver. The young woman was driving in a residential area. The driver hit a woman who was in front of her home working in a flower bed. The car hit her with such force that she was thrown nearly one hundred fifty feet into a truck parked in her driveway. The teenaged driver did not stop at the scene of the accident. The driver was arrested nearby roughly 30 minutes later as she was allegedly going back to the scene to take responsibility for the accident.
Whenever I read a report of a new motor vehicle accident accident my thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. Lives are destroyed in them. Victims can die or endure significant injuries. Some are left with life-long disabilities. The families of the victims also suffer a great loss. Even the teenage driver’s life is altered forever. Sometimes they suffer the rest of their lives from the knowledge of what they did. Sometimes they end up in jail. Still, be it from speeding or from drunk driving these accidents continue to happen.
