Paris' Le Louvre is one of the world renowned museums showcasing the largest art collections of different periods by various groups of people.
If you're not an art aficionado but nevertheless interested in art and need to get a deeper understanding of the art displayed at the Louvre Museum, then it's highly recommended that you take one of the guided tours on offer at the museum.
English tour guides in Le Louvre are offered 3 to 5 times daily depending on the time of the year. This takes about 90 minutes that will enable you to see the museum's highlight artworks.
Guided tours of the Louvre start underneath the famous glass pyramid (crafted by American architect Im Pei) located in the center of the museum. Although there is a fee incurred for taking part in the guided tour children under the age of 13 go free, while those under the age of 18 are offered a discount.
Tours are available on a first come first served basis and can only host 30 people. It is then suggested to arrive earlier at the glass pyramid to get a reservation for the daily guided tour.
The Louvre museum also has an audio guide available in six languages that takes you through more or less the same pieces of art work that you'd see with the human tour guide. Audio guides last 90 minutes and can be hired from a desk near the information desk at the front of the museum.
The Louvre Museum is open from 9 a.m to 6 p.m from Wednesdays to Mondays and is closed during Tuesdays and holidays. Some areas of the museum are kept open until 9.45 in the evening on Mondays. Louvre guards will start checking the areas half an hour before closing and will stop selling tickets quarter an hour before closing.
Standard tickets facilitate you to enter the museum as many times as you like within one day, allowing you to leave for lunch or to rest in the middle of the day. Standard tickets enable you to see all permanent exhibits; however, temporary exhibits incur an extra fee.
