Removal companies may seem like they offer the same kind of services and will deliver similar quality of competence, but nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, each moving services provider will have their own way of doing things and their own logistics teams for removals and not all of them will have the same dedication to customer service or attention to detail. There are ways of finding out which companies will offer you a better service. Taking into account small things will give you clues as to what you can expect from different moving services.

Removal companies in general will have someone answering their phone lines. If the person who answers the phone is rude, abrupt or unfriendly, then chances are that the company’s overall service will be the same. After all, the first person to answer the phone is usually the face and mouthpiece of the company. Therefore, always listen to hear whether the person who answers your initial call is enthused about taking the call – if they are not, then keep looking, it is not a removals provider that you want to work with.

The next way to judge whether the removal companies that you are calling are any good is to talk with a representative who will give you a quote for your move. If the representative is willing to give you a rough estimate and then come over to your home to give you a more accurate quote, then you know that you are dealing with a good removals provider. If, however, the representative gives you a generic quote and then tries to get you to sign a contract without first evaluating your belongings in person, then run because you can be sure that the final bill will be far greater than what you were initially quoted.

Although not completely necessary, good removal companies generally tend to have a uniform for their employees to wear. Moving services that are not as interested in their reputations and are rougher around the edges will not care about what their movers are wearing – however, it does reflect poorly on the company. Movers who are required to wear a uniform tend to have greater pride in their work and in their company and therefore provide a better service. The last thing you want is for your precious heirlooms to be handled by a mover wearing a death metal t-shirt.

Avoid any removal companies which promise you a flat rate for your move – it does not exist. Most moves are based on the quantity of goods that you have, the distance you are moving and the level of difficulty for the move. An honest removal company will alert you to these variables and, at least, will give you a range within which you can expect your total.

Finding a good removals provider is one of the most important elements to having a smooth move. Unless you are 100% confident in the company that you hire, you will be stressed out about your moving day – which is something that should never happen since it can be prevented so easily.
