Garbage landfill can play a very important role in our lives. This is the reason why the government is paying much attention to the management of landfill areas in the country. It can pose great danger to our health and environment if we don't properly manage them. This is also the reason why some communities have adapted the system of reducing, reusing and recycling of garbage materials as their personal response to the growing concern about proper garbage disposal.
It is a conscious effort to pull everyone together in order to implement a successful community project in response to minimizing the impact of landfill in our environment. The very first thing that we need to do is to separate the organic or the food waste from the rest of the garbage that we collected. As a reference, here is a quick list of what this type of garbage should include: vegetables and fruits scraps, eggshells, coffee grounds, tea bags, yard waste, table scraps and meat. All of these materials can be used for composting, which in turn can be used as plant fertilizers. This can also help in extending your community project to organic farming.
The other type of garbage that needs to be separated includes bottles, tin foil and cans. To be more specific, you may include in the list the following used materials: milk and juice cartons, bubble wrap, rigid plastic packaging, and plastic bags. We accumulate a lot of this type when we go to the grocery store because these are regular part of our day-to-day living. Proper preparation of these recyclable materials includes washing the inside to take out the remaining content of the packaging.
The next types of materials are very common and I am sure you will agree with me that we have tons of these lying around in our house. These are cardboard and papers. Examples of this type are: newspapers, magazines, letters and envelopes, toilet paper rolls and other dry paper products that we no longer use. It is best that we flatten the boxes to minimize the bulk; therefore we are also helping the collectors make it easy to pick-up.
If we do not participate in the proper management and minimizing of landfill, it will soon fill up so much space and eat up the spaces that we should be enjoying. By doing our share, we will definitely help ourselves and the environment from the harmful effects of landfills.
