Acne is often thought of as being a condition exclusive to teenagers.
Whilst it's true that most incidence of acne appear in teenagers and most Acne remedy sites seem to feature this, it's also true that it can affect anyone, at any time of their life and let's face it; no one likes having acne, whatever age they are. It affects their confidence, their self-esteem and in some cases, can even lead to depression.
Acne develops when pores become clogged with sebum, which is an oil found in the skin.
Our bodies make more sebum when our hormones become over-active, which is why it's a very prevalent condition in teenagers. It's also the reason why women often suffer with breakouts just before their periods and why acne can suddenly affect pre-menopausal women.
Fortunately, there are many treatments available these days which can help to reduce, and in some cases, completely halt, the progression of acne.
You only have to look on the internet for information on acne remedies and you will be rewarded with millions of results. There are over-the-counter remedies, natural remedies, prescription remedies, holistic remedies, home-made remedies; the list goes on.
That's the easy part though. The hard part is deciding which information to follow.
In my experience, Acne remedy sites that show consumer reviews are always a good place to start. Descriptions of the treatments, the results they've given and how long it took for the results to show are all important factors to take into account when you're looking for acne remedies.
Of course, prevention is by far the most desirable solution when it comes to dealing with acne and some people prefer to consult their doctor before going down the self-treatment route.
However, whether you're acting on advice from a doctor or taking matters into your own hands, a good place to start is with your diet. Do you need to change it?
It generally goes without saying that what you put into your body will be reflected on the outside. Also, as recommended for so many conditions, flushing your system through by drinking a few glasses of water every day is always a good thing.
When it comes to stress, it's not always easy to keep it at bay with the hectic lifestyles so many people have these days, but do try and keep it to a minimum if you can.
Some people will say that stress is not a contributing factor of acne - speaking from personal experience, I can only say that my acne was always worse when I was in a stressful situation!
Following a good skin care and hygiene routine will also work wonders for your acne. Take care though, not to use products that are too harsh for your skin, otherwise you could risk aggravating what is already a very "angry" condition.
I've already mentioned a few of the acne remedies that are available on the market today. If none of them work for you and you haven't already been, consider paying a visit to your doctor or dermatologist to establish how best to treat your acne - it's a horrible condition, but these days, it really is possible to treat it successfully.
I have suffered with acne for 30 years and I tried numerous acne remedies before eventually finding one that gave me great, long-term results.
