It doesn't take a long time to realize that every bodybuilder need a good protein supplement. Whey protein has gained popularity as a supplement for many years for many reasons. How one type of whey is different from the others? What is different and how will each of them benefit you?
Before we continue, it is important to point out that one should not confuse whey protein. It is a supplement. As a supplement, it should never substitute complete meals. The best practice is to get various nutrients from the diet because the body needs different types of protein, and add whey protein to get enough daily supply for the body.
Not all whey protein are created the same though. While all whey protein comes from milk, at the purest form, it still contains lactose as well as fat and cholesterol. Different whey protein is produced based on the processing and filtering methods, including introduction of additional supplements.
While protein in whey protein concentrate (WPC) is high enough, it still has other unwanted ingredients you want to avoid. A purer type of protein is whey protein isolate (WPI). It contains 90 to 94 percent of protein. The body also absorbs isolate way better than concentrate. Isolate filtering procedure takes out more fat and lactose so it is ideally better if you aim for quality.
That is still scratching the surface though. As time goes, manufacturers introduce other nutritious elements into their products. For that reason, and more, price ranges greatly. Choices become harder as nowadays you can find almost any favor you like.
The pureness of WPI makes it harder to produce, hence it costs more than WPC. Because consumers begin to realize about the benefits of isolate, producers want to produce inexpensive protein while carrying the isolate label. One trick they've done successfully is to include enough isolate in the blend to legally label it as such.
Make sure you check the label for fillers and cheap ingredients such as fructose corn syrup. Because of the benefits mentioned above, it is recommended that you choose whey isolate, but it isn't necessary to pay for the price of full whey protein isolate. A good blend of both provides high enough quality of protein and may save you quite some money in the long run. As more choices flock into the market, you have to spend more time if you want to research them all for the right protein that suits your budget and needs.
Finally, before buying, you can often save quite a lot with certain brand of WPI. For instance, in the same package, you will find enzymes and multivitamins that can help in absorptions of nutrients. That means you don't have to buy separate products.
