Halloween is a great holiday that is celebrated on October 31st and is the highest satanic holy day of the year. Halloween is all about dressing up in costumes and going trick or treating with children; although there are many adults who go trick or treating in order to get candy for themselves.
Halloween is a time for kids to collect candy, lots and lots of candy. Each and every year bags of candy are collected brought home by children who have gone 'Trick or Treating'.
Halloween's origin lies in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which marked the start of winter and in true pagan fashion involved real witches and communion with the dead. Samhain, the Celtic God of the Dead, would allow the souls, evil and good, of those who had died to return to their dwellings. Celts believed that the spirits of the dead returned to earth to try to possess living human bodies. The idea of dressing up in scary costumes was to scare away the spirits and prevent them from possessing living humans.
Children love to dress up, do lot of makeup and get ready for any kind of party especially a Halloween Party. Halloween is particularly special because for one night of the year, they not only get to dress up, but they get to see everyone else dressed up as well. Children love monsters and spooky costumes to dress up in and local supermarkets have a wide selection available in a range of price brackets so you will be able to find a costume to suit your children as well as your purse.
Mask wearing stems from long ago. When disaster struck it was believed that the demons that had brought the disaster would be frightened off by hideous masks. Masks and costumes were incorporated by the Celts to ward off the evil spirits of winter and when the Romans came to Britain they introduced fruit to the celebrations.
What makes Halloween extra fun for children is Halloween games, and they don't have to be games that you have spent a long time on to prepare. Kids love word find games, give them Halloween-related words and ask them to find as many scary words as they can. Kids love poems and pictures that tickle their imagination and Halloween offers ideas to do just that. There are several delightful books in verse to choose for Halloween fun. Kids love things like this and it will keep them all occupied for quite a while - Halloween Treat Hunts are a great game for kids. Design some treasure maps on your computer and print them off beforehand of where the Halloween Treats are hidden around the house or garden. The Roman goddess of fruit, Pomona, was symbolised by an apple, hence the tradition of apple bobbing has its origins in Roman tradition.
