It is generally acknowledged that teenage drivers are at high risk of being involved in a motor vehicle accident. Practically every day there are reports of even more accidents concerning teenage drivers. Many accidents have more than one teenager in a car. Many accidents have more than one victims. Many accidents involve pedestrian victims. In this article we analyze 4 reported accidents. In 3 of the accidents someone was killed.
In this publication a motor vehicle accident was described in which the driver was a sixteen year old who has a junior license which permitted the teenager to drive up to 9:00 pm. The incident, though, occurred on a weekday after 9:00 p.m. The reason why is unclear but somehow the driver lost control of the car. As a result the car hit another vehicle and then struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian died from the injuries sustained in the accident. The pedestrian victim was waiting at a bust stop when the accident happened. The victim was a 65 year old man. The driver was arrested. He was charged with speeding, with manslaughter, and with criminally negligent homicide.
In this report the driver of the vehicle was a drunk 18 year old male. The motor vehicle accident took place before dawn on a Sunday. Weekend evenings pose the biggest risk for the occurrence of accidents involving drunk drivers. The driver hit a male pedestrian, forty four years of age, who was crossing a road. As a result of the accident he sustained major head injuries. The driver was arrested. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and driving under the influence.
As per this report the driver was an eighteen year old male. The accident took place in the morning hours on a Sunday. The accident took place in a residential area. The accident happened when the teenaged driver lost control of his vehicle. The car spun violently and then flipped over, hit the victim and slammed against a large tree in front of the house. The man had just left his car to get a pamphlet from the front yard on a home which had a For Sale sign when he was hit by an out of control car. The 67 year old male victim did not survive the accident.
This motor vehicle accident involved a nineteen year-old female driver also driving in a residential area. She hit a woman who was in front of her residence working in a flower bed. The car hit her with such force that the woman was thrown nearly one hundred fifty feet into a truck parked in her driveway. The teenaged driver fled the scene of the accident. About 30 minutes after the accident the police located the young driver and placed her under arrest. They found her not far from the scene of the accident. She claimed she was returning to the scene to admit she had caused the accident.
Every time I read a report of a new motor vehicle accident accident my thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. Lives are ruined in them. Victims can die or sustain serious injuries. Some are left with permanent disabilities. The families of the victims also suffer a great loss. Even the teenage driver’s life is changed forever. Sometimes they suffer the rest of their lives from from their guilt. Sometimes they lose their freedom.
