The summertime is coming to a close and that means back to school time. What better way to get the kids excited to return to school than a back to school pool party? Hosting a pool party can be simple, quick and fun.

First and foremost, it is best to start a party by inviting guests. Also, it is important to note that a clean pool is necessary, not to mention more inviting, than a dirty one. If the pool happens to need some cleaning, run the automatic pool cleaners. The cleaner helps tidy up while other party preparations are started, such as choosing a menu and putting up decorations.

Barbeque fare is typical for pool parties as most of the side dishes can be prepared ahead of time or can be cooked on the grill outside. Examples of appropriate food might be potato salad, chips, coleslaw, baked beans, corn, hotdogs, hamburgers, ribs and even fajitas. Also don’t forget the drinks. Nothing makes a party more than delicious food. An easy way to be sure that everyone has been served without neglecting the hostess duties would be to place a long table in the back yard by the pool. Cover the table with a colorful tablecloth and place the covered dishes on the table. This will allow the guests to serve themselves.

Once the food is taken care of, decorations are the next step. A Hawaiian theme always seems to go over well, but if something different and unique is desired, why not go with a popular theme for the year based on the age group at the party? For instance, there is typically a popular music artist or TV show that teenagers are focused on. What about the younger generation? Cartoon characters are always a good choice. Once the decoration theme has been decided, the next step is to purchase and decorate. Gift bags often go over very well with the younger crowds and can be put together without spending too much extra. Also, do not forget streamers, utensils and dishes.

Now that the guests have been invited, the food has been made and the pool has been cleaned and decorated, it’s time to have the party. Once the guests arrive, offer them a fun fruity drink, such as punch with sherbert or pink lemonade with raspberries. Finally, it’s time to enjoy the party and look forward to the upcoming school year.
