I have a reality check for you if you believe business coaching is going to deliver instant revenue gains and massive profits.. Very rarely will the act of simply paying fees to an adviser or coach, and expecting the best, be enough. There are some basic things that have to be in place before you can begin to really reap the rewards of a good business coaching program. Here are a few:
-
Your understanding of your role in the exercise
-
Your dedication to define a vision and goals and stay focused on them throughout
-
Acceptance of responsibility for your actions (or lack of them)
-
The patience necessary to realize the gains
-
Persistence to keep going when you feel like it's getting too tough
-
Doing what is necessary even when it may feel uncomfortable
Don't miss the real payback in any business coaching program of gaining valuable knowledge. The coach is not going to be doing all the work for you!. Remember, you get to absorb and keep the knowledge - it becomes yours forever. That is where nirvana is, in the confidence that comes from having learned and mastered the skills of business. The extra sales and profits you get will be all the more sweeter if you know it was your actions and courage that delivered them.
Set aside at least 3-4 months of activity before you see significant results in your revenues and profits. Promises of instantaneous boosts to turnover and profits by an advisor are to be taken with a grain of salt. This is marketing spin that is intended to rope in those who are impatient and naive, and that's not you! Business coaching can deliver fantastic benefits to the bottom line and is an effective strategy if approached with the right perspective. It's possible to skip years of mistakes and obstacles and gain valuable business knowledge in a short period of time.
Use the business coach as a guide and a sounding board on your journey. It's your responsibility though to take your own steps and be accountable for each decision you make. In this way you will reap the rewards of not only business success, but also of your own development as an entrepreneur.
