Ways to Eliminate Fraud

In this day and age of cyber technology and virtual hackers, we can see that technology makes it easier than ever to be a criminal. Was technology not supposed to help improve our lives? If it was, then why is technology making fraud even easier? Well, the fact of the matter is that technology is actually taking a bite out of fraud. More specifically, point of sale software can help you as a small retail chain owner to eliminate the chances of being defrauded by your consumers.
With your current cash register, you swipe someone's credit card on the good faith that it will have sufficient funds to purchase the goods. However, that is not always the case and battles with banks and credit card companies ensue. With point of sale software, you can get rid of the chance of selling merchandise to someone without money. As soon as a credit or debit card is swiped, the point of sale software will know if the account has sufficient funds or if the credit card has reached its limit. In that case, you cancel the sale and ask the customer for another form of payment. Headaches and inventory shrink are both greatly reduced with this software.
Another way that people try to take advantage of retail chain stores is through fraudulent returns. If you have a hosted point of sale software system, this will no longer be a problem. You will have the ability to track each customer and their shopping habits. If the system detects a pattern of returns, you will be notified and have a chance to look at the customer's record. Perhaps they have returned ten items in the past six months with the claim that they were defective upon purchase. That is not a very likely story and you will know to refuse continued service to the customer or you will know to deny the return. A hosted software system tracks all of these things easily and automatically to help you protect your company.
A hosted point of sale software system can help you by eliminating employee theft as well. In the old unorganized inventory days (yes, the ones before point of sale software) you knew how many items you ordered, but within a short period of time, you were no longer sure how many of those items remained in the stock room and how many had already been sold. This particular circumstance made it very easy for employees to help themselves to a few items and say that they were sold. With point of sale software you will know if the items were truly sold or if the inventory somehow mysteriously disappeared. If the latter is the case, you can interview your employees to try and determine the cause of the loss or you can install better surveillance cameras to be able to keep an eye on your products. This is the perfect method of inventory management.
Whatever type of retail chain you run, from clothing to shoes, a hosted point of sale software system can be beneficial to you and will help in the optimization of your business. There is no reason to wait, unless you prefer not to become more profitable.
