How to sight in your new rifle scope yourself?

Learn how to properly bore sight a gun so that you are able mount your new rifle scope correctly. Bore sighting is when take both the barrel of the rifle and the rifle scope to focus on your target. By adjusting your viewpoint between the two lines of sight, you will be able to adjust the rifle scope until the viewpoint is the same. Ensure that the gun doesn’t move while you are doing this or the alignment will all out of whack.

Take a few practice shots, then if you can see how closely the bore sighting process aligned the rifle scope. Try to shoot in a really tight focused pattern, then you will be able to see how accurate your sights are.

Now its time to do some more fine tuning on your rifle scope by playing with the alignment wheels on your scope. On most rifle scopes, one knob will handle the side to side alignment of the rifle scope, and the other will adjust the rifle scope up and down. Depending what kind of rifle scope you have, each click of the knob will adjust the scope either 1/4 or 1/2 of an inch.

You want to keep playing with the focus knob, so that you will be able to make quick and fine adjustments when you need to make one in the field. While many modern scopes feature an automatic or speed focus feature that does the work for you, you will still need to familiarize yourself with how quickly they work so you will be able to time your shots more efficiently.

Also you need to know how to use the crosshairs of the scope to be more accurate with your shots. A lot of the newer rifle scopes use crosshairs that can help you estimate bullet drop and wind direction, and some even offer illuminated bulls eyes or laser guides to make your skills even better.
