Save Space By Using Adjustable Dumbbells
If you have little room in your house like me, you should give adjustable dumbbells a try. In reality, a person who lifts weights at home would enjoy to have an entire rack of dumbbells in their house. However, even if you had the room in your house, the cost would be a little high. free weights could cost anywhere from $0.50 to $1.00 per pound and when you get an entire set, you are talking thousands of pounds.
When I lift, I am currently using adjustable dumbbells, kettle bells, and resistance bands. I often do some work on a balance ball trainer to work all of the stabilizer muscles. There are also quite a few fitness companies that offer selectable dumbbells including Weider, Powerblock, Bowflex, etc. I've used a couple of different ones while working out and I have found them all to be very well built and quite easy to adjust. In addition, the price for selectable dumbbells is a lot less than buying an entire set and a lot easier than unlocking and adding additional metal plates.
If you are going to purchase adjustable dumbbells you should get a dumbbell stand which fits with the brand that you get. Don't find out the hard way…it's much easier to adjust the weights when they aren't on the ground. Save your back and your floor and spend the extra money for a stand, you'll be happy that you did.
Something else you should consider is if you are going to be lifting more weight than the standard adjustable sets offer. If you are going to be lifting large amounts of weight, buy a set that can be upgraded. The standard adjustable set goes to about 45-50 pounds. However, if they are upgradeable, many can go up to 75, 90, or even 110 pounds.
If you're limited on space and money, adjustable dumbbells are the answer.
