Whey protein is a natural by-product which is produced while making cheese. It is a component which is found in all mammalian milk. Generally the percentage of protein in cow's milk is 3.75% in which 80% is casein protein and 20% whey protein. While preparing cheese coagulation of the casein protein begins, this is the curd, and the left over is the liquid stream of whey. Whey protein has three separate forms which are concentrate, isolate and hydrolysate. Concentrate whey protein has low level of fat and cholesterol and highest level of bioactive compounds and lactose. Isolates are processed to remove the fat and lactose present in whey, which results in less bioactive compounds. This is a very good option for the people who are allergic to milk. Hydrolysates whey protein is more beneficial for the allergic people as it is pre-digested and partially hydrolyzed.
There is variety of types available of these protein bars. They are sold in various forms on the market, such as diet, pure, crunchy, or energy bars that are suitable for the users. While choosing these products keep few points in mind. Firstly, check the calorie level especially if you are on weight loss plan. Secondly, check the carbohydrate content and sugar alcohol as well. Also check the saturated and trans fats and choose the product with low content.
