There really is a need to overcome shyness and social anxiety. People all over the world have this problem. Actually 7-8% of the world's population suffer from this, so don't think your alone.
In my personal opinion, if you want to improve and expand in any area of your life, you have to be willing to push yourself outside of your comfort zone. Your comfort zone can be a trap that restrict you from growing and overcoming your troubles. When bodybuilders lift weight to grow their muscles, they don't lift weight that are no challenge. They push themselves to grow and they realize that they have to have enough resistance against their muscles to grow. They push their muscles beyond their comfort zone.
I love to play video games. When I beat a game, more than likely I won't play it anymore because I want a new challenge. I want something that pushes me to a different level. Try to translate this into overcoming shyness and social anxiety.
I used to suffer from shyness and social anxiety, so I know that social interactions can feel like the worst experience ever. I used to avoid the social events that I was invited to and come up with any excuse to avoid them. In all honesty, social interaction can open up many opportunities whether it is in your personal or professional life. Try to see if you can do just a little something everyday to get you into the habit of going beyond your comfort zone. When you begin stretching your social muscles, you will begin to become more and more comfortable and begin putting an end to shyness and social anxiety.
If you spend a majority of your time worrying about the problem, you are expending a lot of energy and are getting nowhere. Start planning more and worrying less. When you focus on planning, you will find yourself a lot less anxious. Plan some conversation topics. What can you do to make yourself more comfortable? When you come up with the answers, act on them. How can you prepare for your unique situations?
Be a problem solver instead of a worrier. When you put yourself into this state of mind, you will start to put yourself into the proper mindset to overcome shyness and social anxiety. Try your best to push yourself past the limits of your comfort zone. This is the only place that you will truly grow. There are many benefits to be gain once you overcome shyness and social anxiety.
