Wigs Cover Up More than Thinning Hair

Although most people accept hair loss as a natural part of aging, some find the effects to be emotionally debilitating. When a person is depressed or anxious about their hair loss condition, it is easy to be duped by clever sales people who pitch the latest marketing ploys, especially when a permanent easy solution is promised. For the problem of hair loss, there are dozens of remedies that range from $10 tonics to $10,000 surgeries. Wigs, weaves and hair systems are one option that is sometimes pitched as an inexpensive solution, but buyers should be aware. Wigs and weaves may not be right for everyone. Often times the negative aspects of this type of hair loss solution are hidden from prospective customers. In some cases, hair system sales people have mislead potential customers into believing that their own natural hair is used.
Before you settle for a wig to conceal your hair loss, you should know all the facts. The first consideration is durability. Unlike our own natural hair, wigs and hair systems do not have the ability to grow out and regenerate. Even the highest quality wigs that contain 100% human hair get tattered, dry and brittle after normal wear and tear. Without the ability to naturally replenish old hair, wigs eventually degrade and have an unnatural appearance. The more active you are, the sooner your wig, weave or hair system will wear out or become discolored. Some factors that affect the vitality of a hair system are sun, wind, chlorine, dirt and washing. These factors limit where a hair system can be worn and negatively impact those who enjoy outdoor sports such as swimming or riding a motorcycle.
The next consideration is discomfort. Wigs, weaves and hair systems must be attached to your head in an uncomfortable unnatural way. Usually it’s glue or clips that hold a wig in place. Not only can a wig be uncomfortable but the side effects can impact the health of your head. If a hair system is glued, it can be difficult to wash your scalp properly which can create undesirable odors. Both clips and glues can scar your scalp and cause further permanent hair loss.
The final consideration is cost. When compared to getting a hair transplant, it might seem more cost effective to get a wig, weave or hair system, but the reality is that over time the constant maintenance and replacement can surpass a hair transplant by thousands of dollars. The temporary nature of a wig cannot be compared to the permanent solution of a hair transplant.
Those who want the most effective permanent solution for their hair loss should consider a hair transplant by a reputable hair transplant surgeon.
