Fishing frequently is rather obvious as this increases your odds of catching a large fish even by accident. As long as you are putting in your time out on the lakes and rivers, chances are you will happen across some good luck.

Fish Where Large Trout are Rumored

Do whatever is necessary in order to take advantage of the locations that have been reported to already have plenty of rather large fish in their midst. If you are fishing in locations such as New Zealand, Kamchatka, some rivers in Alaska or Tierra del Fuego then you are on the right path to catching some extremely large trout. In the western region of the US, places such as Idaho and Montana are quite popular for their impressive trout. However, if you are looking for the best locations in the east, try to fish the waters of Colorado, Wyoming, Arkansas and Pennsylvania.

Fish with Large Tackle

It’s simple, the larger the fish is, the bigger the meal it is going to seek out. Larger trout set their sights on such prey as larger stoneflies, crayfish, smaller fish and sculpins. Because of this, you may want to change your lures accordingly.

Fish after Rainfall

Large trout tend to prefer eating during the low lit hours. Since these fish are also eating larger meals, they are most likely going longer in between feeding times so that they can digest. Fishing at both dawn and dusk or on days that are somewhat overcast will usually result in success particularly if it has rained as this will trigger the feeding response in most trout.

Fish When it is Dark

Fishing by the light of the moon can actually be more effective than lowly lit times of day in some cases.
