How the global recession has affected the small business.

Making your business make money at the moment is easier said than done, the present economic climate at the moment is not as hot as it’s ever been. With so many government cuts and tax rises many businesses large and small are going to the wall. This has a direct effect on the business community, and not a good one to say the least.
Unemployment is at a all time high at the present moment in time, which in simple English means that it is going to be harder to make a profit. The jobs market will be flooded with both skilled and unskilled individuals that are looking for full time jobs. Companies who are recruiting are now in an excellent position when it comes to recruiting new staff. It’s a buyers’ market out there, and the employers can afford to be very choosy indeed.
A lot of self-employed people have gone out of business over the last few years due to the wide spread recession, rising fuel cost have raised the cost of goods and services through the ceiling, and as a result the cost to the customer has had to rise. This situation is also beneficial for the customer as he or she can shop about for the best possible deals, so retailers and other businesses have to keep their costs to a minimum. This is not so good for the businesses that have to keep their costs down to the bare bones. Some businesses are selling there product’s or services that cheap that there is very little profit at all, some are actually selling at a loss and this is the reason that so many companies are folding.
There’s not a lot that the likes of us can do to change this situation, it seems to be in the hands of a government that doesn’t really care about the likes of the small business man or women. I know all too well about it, being the proprietor of a small business myself. I’ve had to keep my costs to a minimum, but the costs of running my business have gone through the roof, but there’s not much one can do except ride out the storm.
