Massage therapy is one of the oldest forms of healing. From the Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, and Chinese, massage therapy was used to promote health and healing. This view is shared until now. There have been many scientific studies exploring the various benefits that a single body massage session can do to the body.
With the use of various techniques, massage therapists manipulate various muscle groups in the body to promote healing and relaxation. Muscle manipulation also improves the body's flexibility and range of motion. When a specific group of muscles experienced injury, the muscles surrounding that area react in response to the muscle contraction. As such, a simple body massage session targeting the affected and nearby muscle areas helps to improve blood circulation, decreases pain and inflammation, relaxes the muscles, and makes you feel better.
So what are the different massage therapy techniques that aid the body in the road to self recovery? According to a group of leading massage therapists serving the areas of Clearwater, Oldsmar, Safety Harbor, and Trinity in Florida, there are three types of body massage techniques that people highly avail in their massage spa. These are Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, and Sports Massage.
These three body massage types uses different combinations of the same massage strokes namely kneading, gliding, draining, cupping, percussive, pulling, wringing, friction, hacking, and pinching. Swedish massage uses long strokes which includes kneading, friction and percussive motions to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. This body massage is specifically designed to relax muscles through the application of pressure and rubbing the muscles in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. Swedish Massage is perhaps the most popular type of body massage available in any massage spa.
Deep Tissue Massage, on the other hand, uses slow strokes and deep finger pressure aimed at the areas experiencing muscle contraction. The direction of the body massage strokes are either following or going across the fibers of the muscles and tendons. Deep tissue massage is primarily done to separate muscle knots and release deeply held patterns of muscular tensions. It is both corrective and therapeutic in the sense that it removes toxins, while relaxing and soothing the affected muscle ares.
Lastly, Sports Massage uses friction and draining among others. The primary purpose of doing a Sports Massage is to soften tight muscles, decrease muscle spasm, increase flexibility during and after training, as well as increase rehabilitative capability of muscular groups. It is available both to athletes and non-athletes who are exposed to heavy muscular activity.
The above mentioned types of body massage are available at you local massage spa. Just be careful on choosing you massage therapists. The giver is as important as what is given. In this case, the effectiveness of any body massage technique lies fully on how well trained your massage therapist is when it comes to this field.
