Part I: The Nine Secrets of Network Marketing

When I started out in the Network Marketing industry four years ago I was clueless about how to make money in this business. I grew up watching my mom host Tupperware parties and spend countless hours making thousands of cards to swap at the next Stampin Up conference. I knew she had some success, one year she even got to go on a cruise for her recruiting efforts. And, at the ripe old age of six, that to me meant that she had made it. It wasn’t until this last year that my mom confided in me she never really made any money with her home businesses at all. In fact, she had swore off all network marketing – that she would never do it again.

She wanted to stay at home to raise us kids, and the promises of our industry to allow her to do that were her motivation and drive. She worked hard at it, long hours, recruiting friends, family and anyone she could. She used the products and did everything "right", but for some reason it never really took off. After countless years and several "opportunities" later, she was telling me how the industry had only taken from her and had never given back. It put strain on my mother’s time, our family’s finances and even my parent’s marriage – network marketing was an empty, dark hole in my mother’s memory.

This story is not unique. With a failure rate of 97% in our industry I could find hundreds and thousands of stories like this all around the world… stories of hard-working, dedicated, intelligent people who stake their claim in this industry, only to be swallowed up by it. Does this theme sound at all familiar? Has the initial excitement and novelty of your new business dried up along with your wallet and your resources? Are you about ready to throw in the towel? You are not alone, in fact, you are in very good company. I, along with many highly successful, millionaire, network marketers have all been in your same position. I feel your pain, because just last year I threw in the towel myself! I quit.

After thousands of dollars invested, what seemed like endless hours, days and months, embarrassment in front of friends and a broken reputation… I quit. I was, in fact, so relieved that I, like my mother, told myself I would never do something like that again. This lasted for a few months until I was contacted by a blogger who wanted to review my MLM company and asked if I had anything to share. Boy did I! But before I sent in my review I browsed his blog to see the kinds of things he wrote about. Coincidentally, through his blog I stumbled upon a company that was soon to be my next opportunity. (And could be yours!)

I joined the team of an experienced online marketer who then began to show me the ropes of 21st century network marketing. My previous methods were outdated an ineffective in today’s fast-paced, advertisement laden world. I am ever grateful to my mentor for introducing this concept to me which has completely transformed the way I do business.

In a just a few short months I learned how to efficiently and effectively market my opportunity online without ever talking to my family or friends, making cold calls, spending money on expensive leads, racking my brain for every single person I’ve ever known or any other painful network marketing strategy I had been fed over the years. Not only was I becoming financially free – I was free from waking up every morning dreading what my next "step to success" would be. My business went from a torturous and fruitless experience to a FUN and lucrative business.

Does that sound like a success story you would like to have one day? Well, my friend, you are in luck, because today I am going to personally share with you the nine secrets of network marketing that your upline has never told you and that your MLM company does not want you to know. With this knowledge base you can succeed, and so can the other 97% of networkers out there.

Secret #1: The Real Reason 97% of Networkers Fail…

What does the top 3% of the network marketing industry have that you don’t? Why will 97 out of every 100 people fail? Let me give you a hint:

It’s not because they run out of money.

It’s not because they aren’t working hard enough.

It’s not because they don’t have enough leads.

It’s not because they aren’t pushing the product or the compensation plan.

It’s not because they are poor salesmen.

The reason why 97% of people fail is actually very simple: They don’t know how to succeed. And that is because no one has ever taught them. Wouldn’t it make sense for the company to teach its recruiters how to recruit? It seems logical, but here’s the thing: The company does not make money on the top tier recruiters that they need to pay huge commissions out to every month. The company makes money on everyone else who is not receiving any commissions, but still faithfully pays their auto-ship every month and their distributor fees each year.

To the company, whether or not you make sales is not their concern. Someone will make sales, but it doesn’t have to be you! I could not understand why, after doing everything the company and my upline told me to do, I could not make one sale – not a single one! After putting in the hours and investing my time and resources, reading all the right scripts and using all the right marketing tools, why was I still floundering? Well, if I had known then what I know now… my road to success would have been much shorter and much more enjoyable to say the least. What I would like to do for you now is give you the shortcut that I wish I had been shown four years ago…

Secret #2: You Don’t Have to Play Memory Games.

One of the first things I was told to do when I began in network marketing was to make a list of at least a hundred people that I knew. It could be anybody, the mailman, my roommate from college, my Great Aunt Helga or the homeless guy down the street. I was reminded, of course, that I didn’t want just anyone for my business… but I was supposed to ask everyone to join my business anyway. It was a little counterintuitive, but I obliged as a good student should. Nevertheless, I made no progress. It didn’t matter how many people I forced my poor brain to remember from my life – I could not get ahead.

Here’s the secret – you don’t have to remember everyone or anyone from your past or current life to succeed in this business. In fact, you don’t have to market to your friends and family… ever again. You heard me; your "warm market" is not where you should be looking for the hot leads. Chasing down family and friends is the opposite of effective and will only burn you out and turn you sour to an industry that could otherwise be quite rewarding. So where is your market? We’ll get to that a little down the road. But just know this – embarrassment and shame areNOT a burden you must carry to become financially free.

Secret #3: Rejection is Not A Necessary Evil.

Beyond my memory games, I also talked to all of my family and friends, which was embarrassing at the least and mortifying at its worst. I knew that these tactics had to work for some people (obviously or they would not be promoting them… right?) It just wasn’t for me. I couldn’t emotionlessly be rejected by everyone I knew while I dug myself deeper and deeper into this rut I had invested so much of myself and my resources in. I was burned out and simply couldn’t take it anymore.

What I did not know was that being rejected on a daily basis was not necessary to be successful! I once heard a top recruiter in my opportunity say at a conference "The only reason why I’m making more than you is because I’ve heard thousands of more ‘nos’ than you have." That might very well have been true, but I don’t know how you feel… even if those rejections were essential to my livelihood, I could not bring myself to seek them out. And you don’t have to! Constant rejection is a great way to become so emotionally exhausted in this business that you can’t go on anymore. But with the right marketing and a built-in funnel system, the only people you ever need to talk to are the ones who are looking to join your team.

All you need is a high converting Lead Capture Page, a convincing sales letter, webinar or video and an option to learn more. These systems, used properly, will weed out those who are a waste of your time and energy and bring to the table only the leads that you really want to talk to. If you’re still chasing down rejection after rejection – stop! Learn how to make your leads chase you.

Secret #4: Grow, Don’t Harvest.

Now you may have heard that in network marketing we are in the business of relationships. Well, that may be true, but what you haven’t heard is what exactly our business with relationships is. Let me explain. Most people, upon entering the "business of relationships" immediately begin trying to harvest all of their relationships for a business partnership. This is the memory games we were talking about earlier right? My philosophy: Don’t mix business with pleasure (unless of course you really want to). I would prefer to keep my friends instead of lose them while trying to turn them into "business partners".

Instead of attempting to harvest the relationships I already have for business purposes, I work on growing new relationships with the express purpose of "harvesting" that relationship at a later time. I am not in the business of sabotaging my social life… although I once was. But, thankfully, I am now in the business of networking with other like-minded business people. Once you learn how to do this successfully you will find there are thousands of wonderful relationships out there just waiting to be built for the express purpose of working together in our industry. And aren’t businesspeople the type of people you would want to have on your team anyway? No offense to Great Aunt Helga…

Secret #5: Your Best Prospects Have Already Been Sold.

Have you ever spent an afternoon trying to convince a prospect of the redeeming qualities of multi level marketing? Have you ever squirmed uncomfortably as someone asks "Is this a pyramid scheme?", or "Is this legal?" (Of course it’s legal, but the question is still unnerving!) How would you like to never have to put yourself in those kinds of situations again? Sound good? Great! Then stop chasing people who aren’t interested in your industry. That might sound like common sense, but then there is the question of, who will I market to? It seems a little counterintuitive, but your best prospects are those who are already sold – the people who are already in an MLM company currently or have been in the past.

You see, if someone is already in network marketing, they have no hesitancy about the legitimacy or the potential of the industry. They know how it works and they know what a great opportunity it is. You want to target prospects who have already been sold on what you have to offer. Otherwise you are going to be spending your days debating and chasing leads who only mock and have nothing constructive to say about your business. I don’t know about you, but I don’t have the emotional stamina or the time to deal with such people. Furthermore, how often have any of those "leads" ever joined your business? So stop selling the industry to outsiders who aren’t interested. Focus instead on the 97% of network marketers who are floundering in their current business and looking for help…
