The latest buzz is that Oracle Hyperion 11.1.2.1 will be released this week, and there is a long list of people anxiously awaiting it. The release is supposed to include the conversion tools that allow you to upgrade from prior releases, and this fact coupled with support for Windows 2008 makes 11.1.2.1 a hot topic.
To get you ready, I’ve provided a quick recap of what you can expect in Oracle’s EPM Hyperion 11.1.2.1 release.
Here we go…
Overall Thoughts
Oracle recommends installing 11.1.2.1 on a clean machine in a pristine environment. The cost benefit analysis of working with your existing versions is not that good—the process of uninstalling, cleaning up and then installing the latest version can be somewhat meticulous. As such, following Oracle’s recommendation can save you a lot of time and money, and help you avoid needless frustration.
Release Highlights
Here are the top two reasons everyone is waiting for this upgrade:
-
The release includes support for Windows 2008. For those of you running older operating systems, like Windows 2003, by upgrading to release 11.1.2.1, you will be able to upgrade your Windows operating system.
-
Migration tools/conversion tools are included for seamless upgrading of versions 9.3.1 or later.
Another feature of note is that Java application server support in 11.1.2.1 is expanding to include WebSphere and Apache Tomcat.
Any Companies Running Version 9.3 or Earlier
You must first upgrade to version 9.3.1 before you can upgrade to System 11. This interim step is necessary for all companies on earlier versions before moving up to System 11. If you would like to take immediate advantage of the new release and you have older applications, you could get a head start by converting now to version 9.3.1.
Still No Word
What remains unconfirmed at this time is whether the application conversion tools can be used with software versions prior to System 11. Since there isn’t a direct migration path to System 11 from anything prior to System 9.3.1, it is probably a good bet that you will need to take some interim steps. This is one of the first things I will look for when I review the new release.
Final Thoughts
The first steps once 11.1.2.1 is released are to install and review it. I’ll then relay my overall impressions, itemize new features and search for anything not advertised. If I uncover any ‘gotchas,’ I’ll be sure to pass that information along as well.
Stay tuned, or drop us a line at TopDown Consulting for all the latest release information. We expect this information to include what kind of migration paths are offered and all other critical upgrade information. Once we know, we’ll let you know.
