With the end of the school year right around the corner, teens have just one thing on their mind: Prom. Prom is still about a month and a half away for many high school juniors and seniors, but most teens have already begun making plans. Who am I going with? What am I going to wear? Which after-party should I go to? These questions are all on the minds of many teens right now as they excitedly prepare for the biggest dance of their high school careers. Many teens have been excitedly tweeting their date’s acceptance or creating tagged lists on Facebook of who will be riding in their rented limo with them. Teen girls have used the social network as a way to decide which dress to choose by posting pictures of themselves trying on different prom dresses to see what their friends think before they buy them.

These teen girls are probably taking some of their dress inspirations from the most recent issues of popular teen magazines such as Seventeen magazine and Teen Vogue, both of which centered around preparing for prom. The issue featured several photographs of popular celebrities in formal gowns to give girls a good idea of how to dress to complement their unique body type and facial features. Luckily, Lady Gaga’s infamous "meat dress" was not among the dresses featured.

Teens have also been curious about what songs will be played at the prom and are crossing their fingers for their YouTube favorites. According to the Billboard Top 100 List, the hottest songs this week include some pretty racy titles such as Pink’s "F—n’ Perfect," "Blow" by Ke$ha and "S&M" by Rihanna. Topping the charts at number one was, of course, Lady Gaga with her hit song "Born This Way." The YouTube videos for these songs continue to get re-posted on Facebook along with quoted lyrics for a fitting status update. More often than not, Pink’s song is the quote of choice because many teens find they can relate to the theme of overcoming feelings of insecurity.

With the coupling of racy music and all of the stigmas attached to prom night (thanks to teen cult classics like American Pie) many teens are feeling the extra pressure to participate in activities such as drinking alcohol and having sex. Because of these stigmas, it may be necessary to throw in an extra "serious talk" with your kids before the big event so they can stay safe and not let any pressures or dangers prevent them from having a good time at their prom.

Aside from prom, many teens have been anxiously awaiting college decision letters which are expected to come in the mail within the next couple of weeks. Some colleges have already sent out their decision letters and teens have been letting their Twitter followers know their excitement or disappointment with the results. The majority of letters, however, should arrive by April 1st, so many teens will continue to be on edge until then. For teens who are a little younger, the focus has been on studying for the SAT and ACT tests and preparing to submit applications of their own.
