How many times did you feel that what you ate was never enough? It's only a few minutes after your main meal and already, you can see yourself reaching for that jar of cookies or that box of donuts. And you can't understand why. After all, you did eat a full meal. But the truth of the matter is that there are foods that stop hunger naturally because they rate high in terms of the satiety index. These foods can definitely help your weight loss efforts since they make you feel fuller for longer, thus minimizing your overall caloric intake. Moreover, foods that stop hunger are also rich in fiber and other nutrients that also contribute to your overall health.
The top two fruits that belong to this category are apples and oranges. Not only are they fiber-rich that helps prevent cardiovascular disease and enhances gastrointestinal function, they also make you feel full with less calories. Eating an apple before a meal can reduce the amount of food you actually eat at that meal. Besides, that counts as one serving of recommended daily fruit and vegetable intake of six servings a day. Oranges, meanwhile, are water-rich fruits that allow you to have more without the worry that you will have more calories. Because they are more than 80 percent water, oranges contributes to your overall feelings of satiety without causing weight gain.
Another food that rates high in terms of satisfaction is oatmeal. It is also high in fiber that makes you feel fuller for longer. They are also rich sources of omega-3 so essential to heart health. The creamier your oatmeal serving is, the more filling it is going to be since research has shown that wetter foods signal satisfaction more than dry ones. You can pack more power to the punch by adding fruits like strawberries and bananas into your daily breakfast oatmeal.
It is no wonder that moms traditionally prepared eggs for breakfast. They are rich in protein which contributes to satiety levels, preventing you from the snacking unnecessarily throughout the day. Aside from making you feel fuller for longer, eggs are also crucial to growth and development. They help in the repair of muscles and tissues, especially when you are engaged in an exercise program. However, because they are high in cholesterol, make sure that you eat no more than one a day. Poach them so you don't have to use extra oil in your cooking.
Vegetable soups, especially those which include starchy veggies like potatoes and beans, also belong to the foods that stop hunger list. Having soup before the main course also lessens your caloric intake since it has already filled you up to a certain extent. Even a bowl of warm soup is also enough to appease your hunger. Try to make your own at home so you know exactly what you placed in them. While canned varieties are convenience options, always read the label carefully and always choose the ones that are low in calcium and fat.
