Skin has the most wide spread effect on the health of a person. It is the most exposed and most evident part of the body. Its significance is increased more by the fact that it is the largest organ of the body. Therefore, it is important to understand skin as an overall component. Being exposed to outside environ, most of time the time, it is recommended to take note of common skin infections and ways to prevent skin infection. When one will understand the causes of skin infections, only then will you understand how to prevent them from further spreading.

Common Skin Infection Sources
? You travel a lot daily and are accustomed to grabbing trains, taxis and bus handles everyday. These are not the only place where you come in direct contact with unhealthy sites. Restaurants, public toilets, ATM’s etc are also instrumental in spreading skin infections.
? Children are free and notorious while they play. But it is important to note the playing condition surrounding them as they can catch infections very soon.

Types of Skin infection - Skin infections are broadly classified as Bacterial, Fungal, Viral and Parasitic. The above are broad category which finds sub categories like Cellulitis, Folliculitis, Impetigo, Carbuncle, Furunculosis, Infected laceration and Abscess. Most of the skin infections are not deadly and can be cured with antiseptics, tropical treatment and antibiotic dosages as prescribed. But other deadly skin infections like MRSA, Impetigo, Staph, Ringworm and Herpes become more complex to deal and require a good and through medical treatment.
Preventing Skin Infection Mentioned Above - There are some common practices through which we can avoid skin infection. After all it’s true that prevention is always better then cures.
? The sites where skin infection has cropped should be covered with dry bandage which becomes even more necessary if there is drainage or pus.
? Never ever share personal items like razors, towels, clothes etc, even with your family members as they are viable gateway of skin infection.
? Washing hands is one thing which should be followed as rule. There are no other areas which are gateway to skin infection then our hands. It’s preferred if medicated soap is used for washing.
? Disposable vinyl gloves and latex should be worn if you are attending a person with skin infection. Skin infections are generally very contagious, hence care should be taken. It’s important to dispose off the gloves with proper care and then make it a point to wash hands with medicated soap or more preferably with alcohol-based hand rub.
? If there has been an occurrence of skin infection in your house then, it is important that you wash the linen, clothes etc with hot water with temperature at 160° F along with strong detergent powder. While the place where the patient had been kept should be thoroughly washed with strong disinfectants.
