There are two types of smokers that must find a new coping mechanism to truly be successful in quitting smoking. These two are the smoker that is afraid of quitting, and the smoker that is emotionally triggered. Both types believe that they cannot cope in their daily lives without cigarettes. When they get scared, stressed, angry, or depressed, they are driven to smoke and don't think they can handle the situation in any other way.

Smoking is for these two types, a coping mechanism. They use the cigarettes to calm them down or pick them up, whatever the case may be. The response to these emotions becomes automatic, reach for a cigarette (just like when most people get out of bed in the morning they immediately begin the search for coffee). This is a trained response, but luckily it can be broken.

Finding an alternate coping mechanism is not difficult, it just has to be one that works for you. One option is Quit Tea, of course, because it provides and alternative healthy oral habit to substitute, but actually also helps your body cope with the stress and anxiety that causes most smokers to reach for their pack and light up. There are plenty of other coping mechanism: Chewing gum, diet soda, healthy snacks, exercise, yoga, and many more. You just to find that something that is a good distracting alternative, healthy for you, and helps relieve the stress.

The next step is not so simple, you must train yourself to recognize the feelings that cause you to want to smoke and recondition your response to be this new coping mechanism. It is best to be able to do/have with you, the new coping mechanism and have a constant reminder of it with you all the time. If this is a brisk walking or jogging, keep your running shoes with you at work. If you have decided to use Quit Tea, keep the box or a few tea bags with you all the time, wherever you go.
