One of the best solutions available today to solve time and performance management issues is the use of web-based time and attendance systems. Employees are no longer confined to their cubicles in their offices or even to their office themselves. They do work out in the field to be closer and more attuned to the needs of their customers. Employees also handle multiple projects simultaneously, making time management a challenge for them. With several activities, many customers to visit, many deadlines to meet and many work places to visit, both employer and employee can benefit greatly from a management system that will allow them to maximize the efficiency and the time they spend working.
The problem with traditional time keeping systems was the possibility of human error. Early time keeping methods such as time sheets or Bundy clocks posed a problem for employees who did not report to the main office. Payroll processors had a hard time computing work hours accurately, especially for those in different offices or work locations. Another problem that companies faced was the proper allocation of resources across several projects. Time, money, and efforts were wasted and the goals unachieved with only basic, manual project management and performance management systems in place. Time and attendance systems help solve these problems, helping the company from incurring losses due to human error, intentionally made or not and greatly improving the efficiency with which employees can work. Employees are free to travel around within a single location or to multiple locations and remain in full contact and control of their time allocation and reporting.
Most time and attendance systems available offer time keeping and project management programs. The only systems that don’t have these features are very basic time and attendance systems. Web-based time and attendance software allows employees to log in their time from anywhere by simply having an internet connection. This includes remote office, mobile data devices and even internet cafes, anywhere in the world. Employers have an easy time tracking the working hours of each and every employee with features like weekly or monthly total hours and exception reporting. Exception reports only show the times when an employee has not followed their schedule or allocated work pattern. Exception reports make it very easy for managers to see the variations in employee patterns and thus to monitor their performance.
Software modules for managing projects are also available within time and attendance systems. Employers are able to monitor the number of hours an employee spends working on each project and the expenses incurred in pursuing that particular function or task. Reports can be automatically sent to the administrator, further allowing for accurate, timely tracking and reporting of each employees’ performance.
Companies that want to maximize their employee resources will benefit from time and attendance programs. Confusion and errors made in payroll processing are greatly reduced and pay checks can be delivered on time due to the streamlined process. Employees will no longer need to worry about errors on their pay cheques as the entire process can be automated from the initial employee schedule to the pay cheque. Employees won’t miss out on hours spent working and not being paid. Projects can be better managed because resource allocation and employee performance is better monitored. If you are looking forward to solving your time management problems, take a good look at time and attendance systems. They will improve your business not just in the areas of scheduling and accurate pay but also in employee performance management.
