Despite the common belief about Inflammation being a very bad thing, it is in fact a natural response of our body to the activity of pathogens. If there are any cells that the body believes to pose danger, it will respond by the typical inflammatory process characterized by higher temperature, increase in toxic radical levels and production of killer macrophage cells. However, the process itself may harm the body as well. It is even theorized that the process of aging is caused by this defensive response of the body that is so effective for keeping us healthy while we are younger. As the body ages, it's harder for it to control the process of inflammation and it can become chronic and very hard to cease. It may be different from the wild skin rashes and acute pain associated with typical inflammation, but in essence it's the same process.
If put simple, inflammation occurs when the body's own defensive mechanisms turn onto the body itself. Free radicals and cytokines start deteriorating the tissues of the body and it has nothing to respond with besides producing more of these agents that are sought to remove pathogens but become pathogens themselves. So it all turns into a cycle that harms the affected tissues and organs. Any part of the body could be affected by this effects and it is the main cause for degenerative health conditions such as arthritis, cancer, diabetes and many others.
In this perspective, being healthy is a matter of the delicate balance between positive and negative processes that may take place in our body. This balance, is surprising highly dependent on the level of insulin in the bloodstream. When there's too little insulin in the blood the sugar starts deteriorating the tissues and causes inflammation response. When there's too much insulin, it also triggers the production of natural inflammatory agents. And taking the abundance of sugar in the food an average American eats, it's not a big surprise to see so many people suffering from various inflammatory conditions.
A natural respond to inflammation is the production of cortisol by the adrenaline glands. This hormone helps suppress the immune system that is overactive. Synthetic anti-inflammatory drugs like Prednisone are mimicking the work of cortisol and achieve the same effects when there's not much of this hormone in the body to stop inflammation naturally. And it's evident that the condition of the adrenaline glands is crucial for regulating the production of cortisol.
You can improve the ability of your body to overcome inflammation on its own by consuming specific natural substances. First of all, typical vitamin supplements can increase the level of antioxidants in your body that will eliminate the toxic radicals produced during inflammation. Keeping your diet free of junk food, saturated fats, sugar drinks and caffeine will also help minimize the risk of inflammation. If you don't want to take Prednisone on a regular basis, then you should include red meats, fish oil, vegetables, fruits and nuts to your diet and make them the basic food you eat.
