There appears to be a great deal of debate recently with regards to the use of fish oil supplements, and the question that gets asked is why do people take fish oil supplements.

This isn't really surprising as more and more people today are getting to be conscious about their health, in particular as they get older, and are looking for ways to supplement their diets for continued good health. And out of all the different supplements available, it seems that fish oil supplements are becoming really popular.

It's a widely recognized fact that we all need a daily intake of essential omega-3 fatty acids to keep our bodies healthy.   • Brain functions are improved including concentration and memory. It also helps to prevent depression and Alzheimer's and other mental issues such as ADHD. This is actually no surprise. Fish has always been thought of as being "brain food" Believe it or not the brain is made up of 60% fats and half of those happen to be DHA omega-3's. And where do we find high concentrations of DHA omega-3? - In fish oil supplements of course!

  • Omega-3 fatty acids are known to have excellent anti-inflammatory properties which can help protect the body against cancerous growths and tumors.

  • Because it's such an excellent fighter against inflammation, it is known to be effective in reducing the symptoms of various inflammatory diseases such as arthritis, psoriasis and Crohn's disease. Studies have indicated that there is a link between inflammation and several more serious diseases including Alzheimer's and autoimmune system diseases.

  • As we get older, one of the things that can start to fail is our eyesight. The properties of omega-3 fatty acids can help to keep eyesight healthy and prevent age-related macular degeneration from occurring. Studies indicate that people with good levels of DHA in the blood have less vision problems in later life.

So why do people take fish oil supplements? Well I guess there are no two ways about it, the benefits of taking Omega three fish oil capsules are enormous. It's not only beneficial for dealing with common problems like acne and hypertension, it can also be of great help in dealing with more serious conditions to do with the brain or heart.

One final point to remember is that you should choose your brand carefully. Sadly, many of our oceans are polluted with chemicals like Mercury and PCBs which can find their way into many of the brands of omega-3 supplements. You have to make sure the supplements you buy have gone through a process called molecular distillation. This is the only process that will remove all of these contaminants.
