There are many modes of transportation present in the world like train, cars, trucks, planes, ships and along with them bikes or bicycles are also used as the mode of transportation by many people who belong to the lower class, and mostly by the students, who come from nearby places to the universities on these bicycle. The idea of bicycle lights was not very common some years ago as no one gave it that much importance, however, the perspective of the people have changed today, as they have realized that bike riders also needs taillights and headlights so that they can illuminate their way during the dark and a car can see them coming from far away, thus reduces the chances of accidents.
For this purpose both the reflectors and the active lights are used in the bicycles and in many countries all across the world, there are certain rules stating that the people need to install these lights to the bicycles otherwise they will have to pay the fine. There are various types of lights available for the bicycle and these variation lie in headlights as well as the backlights. Most commonly the back light is red in color and the front is white.
The front lights of the bikes are available in five different types, LED lights, Low cost battery lights, flashlights, halogen lights and HID lights. Firstly the LED lights, these lights are an optimal or best choice for those riders who have to travel a lot at night time, as these lights are quite powerful, bright and inexpensive, thus anyone can afford them and they won’t consume a lot of battery either. However, one thing should be noted that these lights are only recommended for areas where there is street light as well, as they will not light up the way in pitch black darkness to a great extent. Then there are low cost battery lights, the advantages of these lights are that they are readily available and quite cheap, however, they usually give a low light, that is, there power is low and the cost of batteries over the long period of time make them expensive in a long run. Then there are flashlights, which can be tied to the front of the bike and can be removed to prevent its theft, however, they exhaust after a limited amount of time and are not that powerful and are heavy. Halogen lights are one of the most reliable lights. They are readily available can run on batteries for a long time, are quite powerful and are capable of lighting the pitch night. HID lights are the best headlights for the bicycle; however, they are pretty expensive and they require some time, before they can operate at their full capacity.
In the market, there are three different types of backlights available, the filament, xenon strobes and LEDs. Filament lamps are the oldest rear lights in the market, the only advantage is that they are cheap and are omni-directional. Then there are LED lights which are quite bright and can be seen from far away, and along with that they are cheap. Then finally there are Xenon strobes which are the brightest backlight available, however, they are very expensive and consume large amount of battery, so they are usually avoided.
