Most people think that during shampooing, it's enough to just put shampoo on your head, lather any which way and rinse then bubbles away. If you are washing your hair like this, you are not maximizing on the benefits that the correct way of shampooing can bring to your hair. Washing your hair the correct way can affect how your hair looks and feels, as well as make your scalp the healthiest that it can be. Some people wonder why their hair is so dull or their scalp is so itchy then spend lots of money going to the salon to repair it, when all along, they could have just washed their hair the right way and not have to get expensive salon treatments. If you don't know how to wash your hair correctly, just follow the guidelines below.
Select the right kind of shampoo for your hair. Brands offer different variations of shampoo for a reason and that is because different people have different types of hair. Each of these variations are especially formulated for the type of hair they are meant to be used on. For example, if you have dry hair, use the shampoo formulated especially for dry hair.
Buy your shampoo according to region. You might notice that some brands are especially formulated for Asian hair, and that is because Asian hair is different in texture than people from other regions. In the same vein, if you are from Europe, use the shampoo made from your own region because the shampoo made in your locale most likely is formulated in a way that benefits people with hair that is constantly exposed to cold weather.
Use warm water. This makes it easier to wash off the dirt from hair. Pour some shampoo in your hand the size of a quarter (more if your hair is longer) and then begin rubbing it into your scalp with the pads of your fingers and not your nails. A clean scalp is the key to healthy hair so make sure your lather the area well before rubbing the shampoo down to the rest of your hair. Rub the shampoo on your scalp for around two minutes and then proceed downwards by adding a bit of water to your hands and rubbing the hair in circular motions.
Rinse with cold water. Do not use cold water immediately but shift from warm to lukewarm as you rinse, until the bubbles are all gone and your hair starts making a small squeaking sound. Then you can start rinsing with cold water ensures that the hair follicles close, making the hair appear shinier and feel smoother.
Don't rub the conditioner on your scalp. Conditioner is meant for the hair and not the scalp. Getting too much conditioner on your scalp can lead to scalp itching and irritation so apply conditioner without rubbing it on your scalp.
Frequency of washing matters as well. If you live in more humid areas, it is recommended to shampoo everyday. For people in colder regions, shampooing twice a week will do. It is also advised to not get your hair too used to one brand so switching brands every now and then can prove to be beneficial.
