Living with someone who snores can be a stressful past-time. Not only are there significant disturbance issues for the partner of a loud snorer but there are there are significant health issues associated with snoring.
Some of the below devices can help people who snore.
- Anti snoring pillow
Improper sleeping positions can cause the air passage in the throat to stretch and tighten making it somewhat difficult for air to circulate. There are some specially designed pillows which can help the stretching in the neck while you sleep and thus help prevent snoring.
- Mouthpiece
This is a new development. The mouthpiece comes in a variety of construction types including single and double. The more popular are those with the double guard and a hinge to connect the upper and lower pieces. This hinge allows the person to breath naturally and even talk if required.
The best are those that make the bottom jaw protrude forward when the mouthpiece is inserted. This forward movement eliminate snoring immediately. The best I have seen is one called ZQuiet. You can read about the ZQuiet mouthpiece in this ZQuiet Reviews website.
- Throat spray
Natural snoring sprays contain essential oils which when applied to the throat provides a mild lubrication to reduces a portion of vibration deep into the throat and can reduce snoring. It appears these sprays have only a limited use as the body becomes use to it. It is always wise to consult your family GP before you commence taking any of these sprays. We are all different and we all have different body chemistry, so what might be okay for some, may not be for you.
- Nasal strips
Nasal strips are used to assist open nasal airways to increase the amount of airflow. Generally they are made from plastic. They are relatively cheap and as a result popular. They are an external devices and considered to be safe and effective. Athletes often use them to increase air intake.
- Sleep Position Monitor
Devices are set up to beep when the person snores. The basis of this device is to identify the best position for a person to sleep which doesn't make them snore. Some snorers only snore whilst laying on their back and if this is the case then the device will beep and alert the snorer, encouraging them to change position. It is more a sleep position training device and has limited effectiveness.
- Snore ball
This very interesting concept works by placing a ball within bed clothing in a position the person sleeps in and snores. When a person moves into the position they snore in then the ball prompts them to move away from this position and lessens the snoring. It is really only effective if people snore in only the one position. The purpose of the ball it to train the snorer to lie in a different non-snoring position.
There are many snoring prevention devices and this is only a small selection. Medical conditions also cause snoring, so many of these devices will have limited use. Sleep apnea, for example is a major medical condition which causes snoring. Please check with you family Doctor as well.
My preferred option from the above example would be the ZQuiet mouthpiece.
