Commercial window cleaners have traditionally used portable ladders when it comes to cleaning windows on lower level floors of buildings. There are times that window cleaners are prone to accidental falls while using ladders resulting to serious injuries or several days of his/her work schedule.
These accidents occur in commercial window cleaning mainly due to the misuse of the ladder or due to the error of a cleaner using it. Activities such as stepping off your portable ladder and working from window sills and ledges with no safety measures, working on top of uneven and slopping roof tops, working from very long ladders and also over reaching for equipment or windows should be avoided. Other misuses include using defective ladders, straddling from a ladder to nearby foothold and also placing the ladder atop uneven surfaces.
Therefore different moves should be taken towards window cleaning safety. Safe access should be provided at all times in any commercial building if there are windows that need cleaning and if not the windows maybe left unclean. Window cleaners should also learn to use safer ways of working without being fidgety and careless. Traditional office window cleaning methods are simply the ones where workers have to clean windows from outside of a given building. But, cleaning them from inside where windows have been designed to carry out this task without any hassle is certainly an effective method of eliminating any sort of accident. Long pole systems will also avoid the risk of falling off while this cannot be used in every situation.
Ladder failures are quite scarce but it’s important that you chose ladders perfectly. Ladders are generally marked according to their safe working load. The length of the ladder is also a point to consider and you should avoid standing on the top three rungs as much as possible. When it comes to maintenance there should be a thorough check for defects such as cracks, bent or missing rungs and corrosion of fittings etc.
All window cleaners should be well trained and competent in their job role. The appropriate knowledge and the practical skills would be undoubtedly required for these types of jobs. Some sort of supervision maybe required for new comers and also make sure that everything is in order.
