Will the Miami Heat be able to beat all the odds and bag the ring this coming 2011-2012 NBA season? After their devastating loss to the Dallas Mavericks, there has been a lot of question as to whether they are really capable of winning a title or not. On the other hand, some believe that they have overachieved since they are still a new formed team. The fact that the Heat has three superstars namely lebron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh- team play and teamwork adjustment should have been difficult knowing that the three of them is already accustomed to playing on their own and always being the one entrusted with getting the points but evidently, they have shown maturity by sharing the ball on the court and proved to be a fearsome contender especially, when they’ve defeated the Chicago Bulls and the Boston Celtics in the 2011 playoffs.
Last season was pretty tough for the Heat because aside from the pressure of people having high expectations of them, they have been bombarded with other issues like Lebron James giving arrogant statements in the media, Chris Bosh admitting that he enjoys messing around with the Toronto Raptors fans and media, and Dwayne Wade and James constantly blaming their head coach and teammates whenever they lost a game. Consequently, they became like villains in the eyes of the NBA fans outside Miami.
The big three is undoubtedly talented and can be trusted in offense or defense. However, the Heat needs ideal supporting players for James, Wade and Bosh. Reaching their goal of winning a championship ring this 2012 season will not be a walk in the park but with the help of a strong and solid supporting cast, it would be realized. Moreover, there are many other important things that the Heat has to improve upon like their outside shooting, interior defense, experience and leadership. When you look closely at their games, one of the struggles that they had was shooting the ball outside the painted area. There’s no question that James and Wade can really put up good numbers on the board with their slashing game style but improving their outside shooting skills would really increase their chances of winning a title. Mike Miller was supposed to be the one to complement their slashing plays but he has been mostly hurt in the entire season.
They certainly have to make some adjustments with regards to Miami Heat’s interior defense since they mainly rely on Joel Anthony to do the job for them. He is without a doubt a good shot blocker but not yet a veteran defender in the paint like Magic’s Dwight Howards or Bucks’ Andrew Bogut who can consistently go toe-to-toe with the best post players in the league.
Furthermore, experience and leadership are equally necessary for their success as a team. Probably one of the biggest challenges that they will encounter is learning each other better by knowing their strengths and weaknesses and making the crucial changes for the betterment of the Heat. The big three has a major part to play on this matter and so they should step up to be strong and mature leaders.
