When playing a round of frolf, wearing the proper disc golf apparel can shave several strokes off a player’s score. It is important to wear comfortable and functional gear in order to be prepared for the differing conditions that a round can bring with it.

The weather can change quickly during a round of disc golf, as can a player’s body temperature. For this reason it is very important to practice the concept of layering. Frolfers should start with a base layer that wicks moisture away from the skin. This should be something short-sleeved unless it is winter. Even in chiller spring and fall conditions, players will often heat up during a round to want to have the option of wearing a short-sleeve shirt for comfort.

Players should wear a long-sleeve sshirt or jacket over the short-sleeve shirt. This should be something that is loose fitting enough to move freely. Players need this freedom of movement for longer shots like drives, when they will have to torque their bodies into extreme, twisting movements. A hooded sweatshirt is often a good choice, as it will be suitable for almost any weather.

In winter conditions, it is advisable to wear three layers. First, a long-sleeve moisture wicking shirt should be worn. Then, a sweatshirt or sweater can be worn over the top of it. Finally, a jacket or coat can top off the outfit. As a player heats up over the course of the round, the jacket can be taken off and tied around the player’s waist or onto the player’s bag.

One of the most crucial components of a player’s disc golf attire is the shoes. Frolf shoes are a tricky business. They have to allow the player to spin their pivot foot very quickly and smoothly on a tee shot, but they also have to have enough tread to allow a player to get footing on muddy and often steep terrain. It is therefore advisable to purchase shoes made especially for frolf from a disc golf retailer. They will be specially designed to meet a player’s needs, as well as durable enough to stand up to the rough treatment that players give their shoes on high torque tee shots off of concrete pads.

One piece of disc golf apparel that not enough players make use of is a hat. Wearing one protects the head from sunburn, and it also helps shade the eyes to help vision. Players can also use the bill of the cap to help line up putts.

Wearing the right apparel will help a player to improve their game and lower their score. It will keep them comfortable and safe.
