It is true that paper is the most popular and most commonly used printing medium being used in commercial printing today. However, if you learn a bit more about DFW printers or any other Dallas printers, you would find out that their capabilities in printing are much further than you would expect. Commercial printing companies are actually capable of printing on a variety of different media, and in fact, because of advancements in technology, people have been capable of this for a long time now. The following are some of the printing media, which are used in commercial printing today.
a. Paper. The first is naturally the most popular commercial printing media: paper. Paper is a thin material that is made from moist fibers extracted from different plants and trees, more specifically from wood or from grasses. Papers are the most abundant and most common medium used in writing and printing nowadays because they are cheap and easy to produce, and their porous nature is ideal for soaking up ink in order to create images. Needless to say, even with concerns on the environmental effect of the continued mass production of paper, it is and will remain to be the most commonly used printing medium.
b. Metal. Another possible medium for commercial printing is surprisingly metal. However, there is a special printing technique called etching which fits this purpose more than any of the others. With metals, it is usually images or artworks which are printed onto the medium, using a special process which involves the use of certain acids and ground. It is easy to guess, though, that metal is not one of the more popular and commonly used printing medium, which is perfectly fine in more ways than one.
c. Plastic. Next, have you ever carried home groceries on plastic bags, or even just bought a shirt or some pants from some random shop? If you have, then you have certainly noticed the store logo neatly printed on the bags you received. Plastic is quite a different print media than paper primarily because it is a non-porous material and is not suited for absorbing the standard types of inks. Special types of inks that are designed to cling onto non-porous material are needed for this type of print media. By observation, with all of the shopping and grocery stores all over the world, each of which needing specially printed plastic bags, then it can be said that plastic is another common print medium being used today.
d. Textile. It may not be popular in commercial printing, but it is a print medium nonetheless. Specialty printing presses are able to print pictures and text onto the surface of a fabric using special printers and textile ink. Some companies use digital textile printing to ensure optimum color and precise prints.
By all means, these are only a handful of the many different print media that Dallas printers like DFW printers are using today. In a world where limitations are supposed to be passed and the impossible made possible, people are continuously developing different media to print on. Who knows what they would think of next.
