MMA has come a long way since its conception. Committed MMA watchers like the submissions as much as they go insane over a knockout. Whether you are crazy for MMA or just beginning to catch the fever, you most surely want to start to learn about joint locks and chokes. Many of these submissions have been practiced by the fighter for a large amount of repetitions, so they can quickly and effortlessly end a match.
Let us take a look at the best of the best in submissions:
1.Rear Naked Choke
This starts with you being behind your opponent. When in place, it can be a dominate form of attack. One of the arms is wrapped around the neck of the other fighter, the Bicep is tightly secured on one side of the neck as the hand grabs for the opponents shoulder on the other side. Once the hand is by the opposite shoulder, the fighter applying the submissions grabs his bicep on the other arm and grabs the free hand to put it behind the head of the opponent. The fighter will squeeze and pull his arms towards his chest at the same time to wrap the neck like a snake and force him to "Tap". This type of move presses the carotid arteries to stop oxygen and blood supply to the brain. By the time the fighter counts to 10 he will be out cold.
2.Guillotine
Fighters, who drive in for the takedown and leave their necks exposed, will find themselves in a dangerously compromising position. A guillotine choke is executed by wrapping the neck when your opponent comes at you head first. Maneuvering the forearm underneath the opponent's chin, until the opponents head is locked in between the bicep and the side of the body. Using the other hand to secure the wrist of the arm wrapped around the throat. The move is finished by walking you hips in and pulling your arms up simultaneously.
3.Kimura lock
This is a fighters favorite because it can be done from any position on the top or bottom. It starts with you controlling one of the opponent's arms with both of yours. This submission call for the arm to be bent unlock a straight arm lock. The submission is locked on by controlling the wrist of the opponents arm and having the fighter envelop his other arm around the opponents arm to lock it in place. The fighter pinches the opponents arm tight to his chest and pushes the opponent's wrist up and past his own shoulder. The fighter will tap or most likely his shoulder will be dislocated.
4.Straight Arm Bar
To perform a straight arm lock calls for the elbow joint to be hyper extended. Intense pressure is applied on the elbow by locking the arm out, thrusting the hips, and pulling the arm at the same time. This can result in dislocation, a torn ligament, or worse case a broken elbow. Any time an opponent's arms leave his side and pushes on the fighter, he is susceptible to this lock.
5.Knee Bar
Fighters go after this move when behind in a fight on points and they want to go for the win. Similar to an arm lock, except you are focusing on extending the knee and doing damage to the knee cap. Once the opponents leg is secured tightly between your two legs, you start to squeeze to apply the lock. Grab your opponent's ankles, pull with your hands, and push your hips while arching back. Once locked in place, the opponent's will be in a good amount of pain from his leg being hyper extended.
