University does not really prepare you for real life. If you are a full-time student, you probably do not have a lot of space to fit a part-time job in your busy schedule. However, student loans are making it impossible for you to concentrate during your classes as they keep getting higher, making you even poorer. With graduation getting closer and closer, students usually begin to panic. What now? What am I going to do? I owe so much money, how am I going to repay those loans? According to a recent poll, only 16% of the graduates from 2013 classes had job offers a month before graduation. Nonetheless, this percentage has increased at least by 8% in the last two years.

The secret seems to be having completed an internship or work experience before graduating. In 2013, almost half of graduates found a job as a result of an internship. The class of 2015 seems to have grasped this fact, it seems more than 70% completed an internship, apprenticeship or work experience during university.

It is really up to the students to find a job after finishing university. A job will not magically appear, you actually have to work for it. Get the irony? You have to work hard in order to get a job, especially one that actually fulfills your expectations and that is in your chosen field. But do not lose all hope yet, there is still a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.

We are the millennial generation, we are constantly surrounded by technology. The more electronic devices we have, the merrier. There are many job search aggregators and job boards on the web, apps and blogs that could help you on your search. Most of them even list all the internships in your city. You can start searching by location, by company or by field. The internet is full of unexplored possibilities! You can also visit your university’s Career Center to ask for advice in regards to the professional world and how to search for a job. Just know that you need to be prepared for what’s to come. So, in order to have excellent results, you should always have your résumé on point, dress for the occasion, do some research about the company before the interview and, most importantly, reach for the stars!
