The Thinking Behind Sports Massage In London

Many people in the UK take part in sports, most of them on a very regular basis. A sport is really anything in which there is an element of competition and which appeals to one of man’s basic instincts which is to outperform the next man. To be one better, or even to be the best. Being the best is being acknowledged as a world champion at whatever sport you are involved in, which is something achieved by relatively few men and women. A lot of sports do not involve much in the way of physical challenge: for instance, chess is regarded as a sport, but from a physical point of view only involves sitting in a chair for long periods.
Other sports, such as golf for example, do involve physical exercise, but nothing very serious. At worst it is a gentle walk for four or five miles, and then every now and again hitting a small ball with a stick.
Still other sports can involve extreme physical effort, especially contact sports such as boxing or rugby football, and it is these which are most likely to result in sports injury in London.
However, here is another thing: a London sports injury can be sustained by someone who doesn’t take part in any sort of sport at all! Yes, it is quite possible to suffer an injury that is normally associated with taking part in a sport by doing something as simple as digging the vegetable plot for too long, taking part in DIY, or carrying a heavy bag. You have the same set of muscles as everybody else and it is quite possible to overstrain them when using them for something other than sport. You can even suffer sports injury by sitting hunched over a laptop for too long, which many people do today.
Whatever the cause of a sports injury, the answer is very often a sports massage which you will be able to get at a sports injury clinic in London. There are quite a number of different massage techniques and which is used will depend on the particular problem that is being suffered. A sports massage is derived from Swedish massage and is a relatively deep form of massage geared towards the particular set of muscles that is used when participating in the sport. So for instance, rowing involves a lot of use of the arms and shoulder muscles, while football makes more use of the legs.
It is often the case that these muscles have seen a lot of use to the point of over-use as a result of a repetitive and often aggressive action. Sports massage helps to shorten recovery time from sports injuries because it helps to increase blood flow in the direction of the heart, and also increases lymph fluid. Strenuous exercise increases lactic acid and uric acid, and these are natural results of exercise, but both can be lessened with an increase in blood flow and lymph fluid. Increased blood flow into muscles also has the effect of providing extra oxygen to them.
In addition, London sports therapy has the effect of reducing pain. Spasms and cramps are often by-products of physical exertion and a sports massage can help to remove them.
However, a sports massage is not only used after taking part in sporting activity but is a useful tool for preparing the body before an event. Professional athletes often over-train which can lead to a rigidity in the muscles, and a sports massage can help to reduce this tension and give additional flexibility. This will improve performance in an event when used beforehand.
There is another very important factor when considering sports massage which is often overlooked, and that is the psychological benefits. A sports massage not only relaxes the body and the muscles, but also relaxes the mind. If you take part in sporting competition the aim is always, without doubt, to win. If you are pitched against an opponent or opposing team that has a great reputation and is doing very well, you can easily see that there is a psychological barrier to overcome.
By relaxing the mind as well as the body, a sports massage in London helps to provide the athlete with a sense of well-being and put him in the frame of mind which can foresee him or her coming out on top.
Acubody is a sports injury clinic in London which provides sports massage for athletes both before and after sporting activity, helping to reduce recovery from injury and also helping to put the athlete in the right frame of mind before an event.
