Having two of the world’s finest footballers playing on his team is what David Beckham wants.
Himself a football icon, Beckham said he will try to bring in Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to suit up for Inter Miami in the US Major League Soccer.
That is, when the Barca talisman and Juventus top gun end their respective career.
ALL-CONQUERING FRANCHISE
Beckham, 45, said fans want to see the big stars as he envisions forming an all-conquering franchise. He is the current president and co-owner of Inter Miami.
Beckham has stated building his Inter Miami squad ahead of the new MLS season which starts in April. Managing the team is his old Manchester United friend Phil Neville.
Aside from Beckham, other owners of Inter Miami are Miami-based Bolivian businessman Marcelo Claure, Japanese billionaire Masayoshi Son and brothers Jorge and Jose Mas of US multinational infrastructure and construction company, Mastec, Inc.
In his bid to acquire the services of Ronaldo and Messi, Beckham told the Daily Mirror that and he recognises the importance of global names so that interest levels could be kept high.
He stressed: ``I have said from day one that our academy system is a massive part of this club and if we can bring players through here that have lived and breathed Inter Miami then that is the goal.’’
GLITZ AND GLAMOUR
Inter Miami, nicknamed The Herons, have already signed big-name players like forward Gonzalo Higuain and playmaker Blaise Matuidi, whom Beckham said add glitz and glamour to his squad.
Aside from Higuain and Matuidi, Beckham has also signed up former Stoke defender Ryan Shawcross and Brazilian midfielder Gregore.
He is currently negotiating to get former Arsenal left-back Kieran Gibbs, who is currently playing for West ham United in the Premier League.
Having Ronaldo and Messi on his team would be a dream come true for Beckham.
But will the two superstars idolized by millions of football fans eventually land in Miami?
That we have to wait and see.
