One of the main questions that arise when deciding on whether or not to install epoxy flooring in your home is, how durable is it? The answer depends on several factors. For instance, if you have a large, heavy appliance that sits on top of the epoxy, it may begin to crack. However, the weight on top of the appliance should not be equal to the weight on a parked steamroller. Likewise, if a sharp object falls on top of the floor, it could cause it to crack. A minor scratch can be buffed out, while a larger crack may require a patching application of epoxy.

Resistant to chemicals

Resistant to chemicals refers to the ability of materials to withstand certain chemicals. The chemical resistance of materials can be determined according to the ISO 2812 standard. This standard applies to paints, varnishes and other materials that have to withstand immersion in water or other liquids. It also includes tests using spotting methods and immersion in various chemicals.

In general, chemical resistance is a function of the chemistry of the polymer. It decreases with higher temperatures, higher concentrations, prolonged exposure, and residual stress. It can also be affected by a mixture of chemicals, as one chemical may cause the polymer to swell or allow other chemicals to penetrate.

Resistant to stains

Most people worry about stains when they buy new furniture, but new fabric is now more stain resistant than ever. Performance fabrics, such as wool, are an excellent choice for households that experience a lot of spills and dirt. These fabrics are often recommended for high traffic areas. They are also durable and stylish.

A stain-resistant paint is much easier to clean than regular paint. Because it doesn't absorb dirt, it keeps walls looking clean. Stain-resistant paint is available in a wide variety of colors, and you can choose one based on the color and texture of the wall. Some stain-resistant paints don't require primer, and some can even be applied over an already painted surface.

Resistant to scratches

Resistant to scratches refers to the ability of a surface to withstand scratches, dings, or other damage from mechanical contact. The resistance level of a surface to scratches is related to several factors, such as base polymer composition, additive technology, and filler additives. The goal is to match the scratch resistance of a surface to its expected end-product lifecycle.

In simple terms, a scratch-resistant surface resists scratches by absorbing a minor external force. These types of products include watches, lenses, and photographic film. Though the term "scratch-proof" is generally used in the context of high-end consumer electronics, it's often applied to other materials as well, such as glass. In both cases, chemical coating is used to create a scratch resistant surface.

Resistant to UV light

Some bacterial strains are resistant to UV light, and others are not. Researchers have studied both subsurface bacteria and surface bacteria for their UV resistance. Aerobic subsurface bacteria showed higher levels of UV resistance than microaerophilic strains, but gram-negative subsurface bacteria showed a lower level of resistance.

The Earth's atmosphere absorbs most of the UV radiation, leaving only about 33% of it reaching the surface. Some materials are unaffected by UV light and even glow, while others undergo physical changes, which may cause discoloration and deterioration. Outdoor equipment should be protected with UV-resistant materials.

Easy to clean

Although it may seem difficult to clean epoxy flooring, there are several easy ways to keep it clean and looking good. The first step is to regularly sweep the floor. You should do this at least weekly, preferably daily. If you have kids around, you may also want to invest in a dust mop. Sweeping alone will not get rid of the fine film that can dull the shine and make the floor look dirty.

It is possible to use a vacuum cleaner to get rid of dirt, dust, and other particles that could damage the floor. You can also use paper towels to wipe up minor spills. Large spills may require a bit of extra effort to clean up. Taking these simple steps will keep your epoxy flooring looking new for a long time.
