Would it surprise you to know that an estimated 80% of people in the Western world suffer from low back pain in varying degrees. For many of them, physical therapy has become one of the most common methods effective in helping back pain. Many people surprise themselves by finding their pain gone after a few short weeks. They discovered physical therapy helps lower back pain.
It's important for people with low back pain to use physical therapy because of the recurring pain that can occur. 60 to 80% of patients that suffer from this type of back pain do face recurring pain. With physical therapy properly managed, you can help assure that the pain won't come back any time soon.
Physical therapy management usually consists of a number of different exercises that can reduce the pain. Some of the techniques include heat therapy, massage, mobilization, and assorted exercises. Also very important is education on posture. One of the most important kinds of physical therapy involves the strengthening of the lumbar spine.
A key component of low back pain is weakness in the lumbar spine. A lumbar stabilization program encompasses different back exercises intended to show patients the strengthening and flexibility in a pain-free range.
Lower back pain is so painful that you may spend too much time trying to sit comfortably. Once you find a comfortable position you may spend too much time without moving. This just aggravates the condition and you end up having difficulty moving and become quite stiff. A lumbar stabilization program not only helps reduce pain, but will teach you efficient movement. You will benefit from movement awareness by finding more pain free tricks. You'll also learn safe postures, and strength coordination
As mentioned, there are several different exercises that can help eliminate the low back pain. One of the more common exercises involves you lying on your back with the left knee bent. As you tighten your abdominal muscles and buttocks, you want to raise your right leg 12 inches off of the ground. After holding this position for three seconds, you want to lower your leg. Doing this 10 times, and then repeat this process with the left leg.
Another effective exercise involves you starting in a kneeling position. You want to tighten your abdominal muscles and buttocks while keeping your back in a neutral position. With your hands on your hips, raise your right foot and place it on the floor in front of you while kneeling on your left knee. Lastly, lunge forward moving at the hips. Repeat this 10 times for both legs.
The torment of low back pain is something we could surely do without. With proper physical therapy management, you can quickly eliminate a large chunk of that pain and even reduce the chance of you facing recurring back pain in the future. Of course there are several other types of remedies that you need to be aware of. Some of these other methods may be appropriate in your case, so of course you use them under the care of your doctor. But do remember to give top importance to a good exercise plan. And if you want to prevent a recurrence of this back pain, continue your exercises even after the pain is gone.
Stay well.
