United States Tennis Association recently announced this year’s United States Open Tennis Tournament would be held between August 28 through September 10, 2006.
The US Open Tennis Tournament is the fourth and final event of the prestigious Tennis Grand Slam Tournaments around the globe.
So many things can be written regarding this tennis tournament. However our space is limited here. If you are not aware about the greatest tennis tournaments in the world, here is some information about the same.
The greatest events in the Professional Tennis world round the year are four most famous International Tennis Tournaments commonly known as Grand Slam tournaments. They are namely:
§ French Open played in Roland Garos in France
§ Wimbledon Tennis in United Kingdom
§ US Open in Flushing Meadows in New York US and
§ The Australian Open
Apart from this there are Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tennis Tournament- Champion of which is generally regarded as the un official world champion.
All these tournaments are the competitions among the individual tennis players of the world and champion of any of the above Grand Slam tournaments is regarded as one of the best players in the world. The Champion of all the Grand Slam Tournaments in a single calendar year is coveted with the title Grand Slam which is a rare event in tennis history. Rod Laver of Australia and Steffi Graf of Germany are among the rare few among the Grand Slam champions in the modern tennis history.
The matches in the tournament are played as per the internationally accepted Tennis rule which specifies that the matches in the any of the Grand Slam tournaments will be decided on best of five sets in the match.
Also there is international tennis tournament among the countries which is called Davis Cup Tournament. Tennis rules for the Davis Cup tournament are nowadays similar to the Tennis Rules of any Grand Slam Tennis Tournaments. However this tournament has lost its past glory in recent years.
All these tennis tournaments are like money minting machines for professional tennis players. Even the participant player who loses in the very first round is prized with hefty sum.
2006 US Open tennis is no exception. This year an amount of $18.5 Million US has been kept as base prize money in the tournament and the top three Men and Women players may earn an additional amount up to $2.6 Million US. This makes the potential payout of $21.1 Million US payout in the tournament and it is the highest annual purse in sports.
Apart from this, there are ample opportunities for top and even the participating players to earn hefty amount through promotional campaigns and other commercial advertisements.
When there are enormous money flow in any tournament, betting for the competition can not lag behind. Tennis betting is no exception. There are thousands of betting site and tennis betting are making lively hood for thousands of people round the globe.
Back to US Open Tennis Championship, this tournament is played on hard court and some stalwart players, specialist in grass court like Wimbledon, may not feel comfortable in this tournament. Incidentally, Bjorn Borg, five times Wimbledon tennis Champion, has never won the US open. Singles title.
If opportunity comes I will write more about this tournament in future.
