Addressing The Ball

Addressing the ball is not about going up to it and introducing yourself! How far you stand from the ball helps to determine the power and distance of your stroke. Putts require the golfer to stand as close to the ball as possible while a drive requires the golfer to stand a short distance away.
The length of your club and the angle that the shaft comes out of the head plays a role in the distance you stand from the ball. Keep in mind that the putter is generally the shortest club and the driver the longest.
The length of the putter is important when it comes to your golf game. Always get into a comfortable stance over the ball and bend your knees ever so slightly in order to prevent stiffness from setting in.
Keeping your balance as you go about your stroke is essential and it is best to bend at the hips as opposed to the waist as this ensures that your eyes and your head are positioned properly. Making sure that your weight is evenly distributed is essential for a good stroke so as to avoid bringing the club head down too deliberately. Always separate your feet the proper distance apart by forming a stable base.
A stable base is considered to be shoulder length for the majority of golfers. Positioning your feet too far apart is a no-no as this can cause the golfer to either bend his elbows in order to hit the ball or else to choke down on the putter. These are things you are better off avoiding on the golf course.
Make sure your arms are straight but not stiff and that your hands are positioned under your shoulders. You will know you are in the proper position when your hands are a matter of a few inches from your lower abdominal area, but still above your knees. The correct stance will make it possible to hold steady for a couple of minutes without having to suffer any type of discomfort.
