Let me tell you a quick story. There is a certain movie star from the olden days that I have always idolized. Several years ago, before the glut of fan magazines like People and Us, etc., you had to read about famous people in publications like Look and Life magazines. When a featured story about this lady was published, and included her so called "beauty secrets" I devoured the article and was quick to adopt her advice on creams for getting rid of dry skin.
You may be surprised to know that she didn't use expensive creams for getting rid of dry skin. And she didn't recommend any "fancy" (back then) natural topical creams for dry skin. She used petroleum jelly. And she used it after her bath or shower, combined with the water left on her skin from deliberately not toweling off. Her advice had such a folksy, "down home" feel to it, and since her looks were always described as "wholesome" I thought her advice had to be sound.
Looking back on it now its fairly laughable. A beautiful, wealthy movie star with a stable full of make up artists, cosmeticians and lighting experts at her disposal and she chooses to use a product made from the same substance that produces gasoline!
It would seem that this movie star wasn't the only one who thought that it was ok to use petroleum jelly on your skin. For a very long time, manufacturers of creams for getting rid of dry skin have continued to use mineral oil, aka, liquid paraffin, paraffin wax, and petrolatum in their products. And while they do give you soft skin in the short run, in the long they clog your pores, prevent your skin from "breathing" and make it difficult for your skin to eliminate toxins...which it was designed to naturally do.
As consumers, we're making an effort to move away from old style thinking and are becoming more educated about what goes into our skin care products. Fortunately, we are beginning to realize that creams for getting rid of dry skin are only going to be effective in a healthy way, if they are made from natural ingredients. It won't be long before we demand that companies make only natural topical creams for dry skin, and stop making products that are loaded with synthetic chemicals, like parabens, alcohol, dioxane and chemically-produced fragrances.
Some of the best, healthiest creams for getting rid of dry skin that I have found contain ingredients that are 100% natural, like avocado and macadamia oil. These are rich, natural oils that are safely absorbed into your skin and give you soothing, long-lasting relief from dry skin. And you can feel confident applying these natural topical creams for dry skin knowing that they are as safe as if you ate them.
And while we're at it, soft skin shouldn't be your only concern when choosing skin care products with natural ingredients. Besides moisturizing your skin, its important to treat and repair the damage that comes from getting older and being exposed to wind and sun.
Natural ingredients like Vitamine E, exotic kelp ( phytessence wakame), keratin (Cynergy TK) and CoQ10 (Nano-Lipobelle H-EQ10) which are found in the best natural topical creams for dry skin will also go to work at at your skin's cellular level to boost your natural production of collagen and elastins. So not only will your skin be moist and soft, but it will be firm and youthful.
The moral of my story: Don't believe everything your favorite movie star tells you. These famous people have lots of professionals on hand to make them look young and beautiful. Any beauty advice they hand out, such as the best creams for getting rid of dry skin, has to be examined with an educated eye. And now that you know all this, the best natural topical creams for dry skin will be yours with some smart comparison shopping. You can take it from me...even though I'm not a movie star.
