The use of a restorative night cream can be more beneficial for your skin’s health and beauty than just about any other aid. Here’s a look at what you will find in the average women's night creams and how to find the best women's restorative night cream.
But, if the night creams that you choose to use contain toxins, irritants and allergens, you have just erased all of the good that you could have done.
Petrolatum, Paraffin and Glycerin
These are the workhorses of the cosmetic companies. They are found in practically every personal care product on the market; from soap to shampoo to anti-aging lotions. Petrolatum in liquid form is referred to as mineral oil, in wax form as paraffin. They are petrochemicals; byproducts of the process that converts crude oil to gasoline.
They are not moisturizing, because they don’t penetrate. At best, they may help to lock moisture in, if glycerin is included in the night cream. But there are better waxes for that purpose. At worst, in large amounts petrochemicals cause premature aging of the skin and strip the skin’s natural oils. Thus causing excessive dryness.
Glycerin is found in women's night cream, but only increases moisture content by about 5%. Other ingredients are needed if you really want a "boost".
Parabens and other Artificial Preservatives
The paraben controversy is still unfolding. Do they contribute to cancer or not? We might not ever know. One thing is very clear, however, they are the most common causes of adverse and allergic reactions. One of the popular products that is described as a "night nourishing cream" contains four different parabens. Whether they cause cancer or not, there is nothing nourishing about them. But parabens have been found in breast cancer patients. So you decide. I personally won't use them.
Paraben-free products are a recent addition. They would be great if companies did not include other artificial preservatives that are just as, if not more hazardous. Look for a night cream that is free of artificial preservatives. Natural vitamin E is the only thing that a company needs to include to prolong the shelf-life of a product and prevent natural oils from becoming rancid.
Added Fragrances Can Cause Bad Allergic Reactions
Almost without exception, cosmetic companies love to add a nice "scent" to the lotions and creams that they provide. A dab of perfume in the morning should be fine, but the night cream that you use should be free of added fragrances. They are the second most common cause of allergic and adverse reactions. Even, all natural fragrances are known allergens.
6 Truly Nutritive Ingredients
The ingredients that are necessary to stimulate the skin’s natural rejuvenation processes are:
-
Functional Keratin, a protein peptide,
-
Coenzyme Q10, a powerful antioxidant,
-
Manuka honey, an antioxidant with natural antibacterial activity,
-
Avocado oil, deeply hydrating,
-
Babassu wax and
-
Shea butter.
These natural ingredients provide all of the nutrients that the skin’s cells need for best health and healthy skin is simply beautiful.
