Greeting cards get sent around the world in a daily basis. That is why greeting card printing is a big industry. Custom greeting cards are also on the rage these days, and a lot of people are actually trying to make their own personal ones at home. However, when you print business cards do you ever stop and think about the paper you are using. Much like the paper we use at the office, or at school, greeting card paper will eventually turn into waste. Unlike those papers however, the paper for greeting card printing can actually be made of more environmentally friendly materials. If you are going to print greeting cards, then you are in a unique position to help the environment in your own small way. To learn more about green greeting card printing just read on below and see if you can bring greetings to your loved ones, and be kind to mother earth as well.

Recycled Paper

Greeting cards can be printed in recycled paper. Unlike some printed mediums, greeting cards won't be hampered by the little texture elements recycled paper tends to have. In fact those small textures and splotches add flavor to a greeting card making it quaint and attractive. Of course your family and friends can also appreciate that the impact of producing this kind of color greeting card is minimized.

If you are going to send your greeting card out for printing, always ask your greeting card printing company if they have "green" options. If you are lucky they should have the ability to print in greeting card paper that comes from 100% post consumer material. Of course there are variations to this that improve the quality of the greeting card paper. Cards can be printed in lowering rations of recycled material which can make the paper look better. Any little kind of help is probably good. If you don't think 100% recycled paper is good, then try the 50% or 30% versions. Any help should be appreciated.

Cards from sustainable forests

If however you still want to use some "new paper" gor your greeting cards, don't fret. There are still environmentally friendly options that are available to you. Some greeting card printing companies offer printing greeting cards in paper that was produced from sustainable forest. Sustainable forests are forests that are well maintained, with trees that have been grown for harvesting. It is basically a wood farm in a sense. But these farms are always quickly regrown, and no virgin forests are destroyed and wild animals displaced. It is the option for people who want a good looking greeting card but still want to help the environment.

"Non-toxic" greeting cards

Lastly if you didn't know already, the bleach in some paper, and the ink that is printed on paper can have some hazardous effects on the environment they they are dumped in concentrated amounts. Also the resources in making inks and other chemicals used in paper can come from industries that harm the environment. An option to prevent this is to print greeting cards with the use of organic and non-toxic inks. These inks will biodegrade well and will not affect the environment at all. Also the industry that produces organic inks is basically the agriculture industry, which produces only agricultural products with no chance of harming the environment.

So if you are going to send greeting cards to loved ones, try to go green and help save the mother nature as well. Imagine if we all use environmentally friendly products in our printing needs? We would probably save big chunks of forests and numerous animals. Spread the word of green greeting cards and hopefully our children can appreciate the world in the future as we know it today.

Good Afternoon everyone, I saw the post about helping the environment with electronic greetings cards, and since I am a recent fan of e-Cards I thought I would add a quick comment. I think we can all do that little bit extra to try and help save the planet. Whether that be the little things, such as making sure all water taps are properly turned off when you leave the kitchen or bathroom, switching all your electrical appliances off instead of standby. I do all these, but I have also changed the way I send greetings cards. The amount of paper birthday cards, and Christmas cards we send every I was shocked to think at how much money I was spending, and the amount of resources I was using. To change my ways, I have now become a bit of a fan of e-Cards. I think they are such a good way to help the environment, no paper required, so less trees to be cut down! This has to be a good thing! I have done my research and I have finally come across a really good Environmentally Friendly e-Card site. One of the things I like about this site is it is so easy to use, I am not that confident with using computers so this site was really good for me, everything was easy to use and the instructions were easy to follow. Another great thing about this site is that it is totally free, this makes me very happy, saves pennies!! I know e-Cards are not going to be for everyone, but I think they are worth a try! Hope you all find this useful, let me know, and lets hope that the credit crunch eases off soon! Nicole.
