Dr. Ian Smith created a television show for VH1 called Celebrity Fit Club, in which celebrities competed to lose weight, and along with the show created a diet called the fat smash diet. The diet encourages people to eat better while at the same time to become more active.

The fat smash diet creator has a long resume. In addition to sitting on the board for the American Council on Exercise, he is a health consultant for well known television shows and a columnist for many health magazines. He also happened to be the head judge on celebrity fit club, a show that was designed around his book and fat smash diet plan.

The fat smash diet is designed to create healthy habits through implementing four distinct phases:

One - detox: This is a nine day period on the fat smash diet during which the body and mind are purged of impurities, and during which Dr. Smith claims people can lose anywhere from 6 to 10 pounds. Amongst other weird habits to get into during this phase, Smith suggests walking around in a bathing suit and weighing yourself in front of a mirror.

Two - foundation: The smash diet uses this three week phase to re-add some of the foods cut out during detox. These include the 3 ounces of meat or seafood, and is based on portion control rather than calorie count.

Three - construction: This lasts for four weeks on the fat smash diet, during which the person develops a healthy eating plan that includes foods they like. Moderation is important when things like sweets and breads are added back to the diet.

Four - Temple: Now the dieter takes the fat smash diet into their every day life. The temple built in the first three phases must now be maintained through will power and control.

Fat smash diet has both good and bad aspects. The weight lost in phase one is really due to starvation, which isn't good. A lot of health experts say the detox phase is ridiculous. However the lessons of moderation and exercise proposed by the fat smash diet are good ones.
